Got the new rubber on the front screen to let it settle in. Geez it took me a while to work out which way it went on. I'll let it sit for a while before I put the moldings in. The head link g is two months away so plenty of time to settle. It is a nice snug fit and not sitting up where it contacts the outside of the screen, a problem I've had in the past with front screens.

Ordered rear screen rubber from Rare Spares Brisbane via eBay. Was $177 delivered with a discount code, which is a good price compared to their list price in store.

Got more primer filler and asked Steve what ratio I should be using thinners for filling: 10%! I was using 75% before the last fiasco and went to 1:1. No wonder I have been sanding through high spots. Live and learn. Warmish days ahead but we had 15mm rain today so will have to watch the humidity. Won’t be hot so hopefully paint will go on wet and I can fill up those valleys in the passenger side flank. Rest of the body is done.

Drivers front guard still had some big dips around the top rear rust patch, so I stripped the area, refilled, and is now primed ready for more hifill.

The last piece in the puzzle before the head lining goes in is the seatbelts, and I have heard that Seatbelt Solutions in Perth will re-use your period buckles, so will ring them and have a chat. I still have two months before the headlining is likely to be ready, so there is time to get them done. Apparently Neil Stamp in Melbourne gets his belts from them. Budget for the belts seems to be around $500 for left and right retractables and centre lap. Hemco is the other option but would be very happy if I can have the older style buckles.

One thing I dont like about Neils is the length of the buckle strap - far too long - i need to take about 5 inches out of mine as the buckle sits near your ribs rather than down on hip which is a little uncomfortable - there is another guy on facebook doing belt sets for earlies using the old buckles - they do look nice

Thanks Rob. Yes wondering about the buckle webbing length. Hemco offer a few different length adjustable and fixed. You may well be right about the retractables not using the old buckles although I don’t understand why.

These are the buckles I have. Top left are after market Hemco that were fitted to my first EK, date stamped 1964. They are my all time favorites but I only have a pair and one of the springs is gone. I doubt the powers that be would look kindly on these although they are quite effective. Bottom left are the ones I would probay go for. These were standard fit in my first car the mighty HK. I think the top centre are HD HR TA LC maybe. The GM ones I think are later Torana.

Centre at top is the Britax seat belt, fitted to Sydney and Brisbane built Holdens.
Bottom left is the seatbelt fitted to Melbourne-built Holdens.

It's a factory thing. I don't know which style of belt Adelaide used.

Thanks Rob. My HK was delivered by Freeman Motors Adelaide. Would certainly have been Adelaide build and had the bottom left same as Melbourne.
