G'day all,
well we r another step closer to the nationals.... very excited.
This weekend Faye Beth was off to the Mechanic (unfortunately Dave was not able to do it. I felt like I was cheating on a lover not taking her back to Dave... Ha Ha he he aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa, sorry Dave.)
Any wayz, hoping the thrust bearing problem will be sorted by mid week & I can put finishing touched, the wood / strips in tray, & then we are done, ready for nationals WOW HOOOOOOOOOO.
I put the canopy back on for first time... OMG????? how the hell did they drive these things like this. NO passenger side mirror? u cant c jack????? Any ways.... it was fun driving her for first time with canopy.
But in cleaning up the undercarriage, I did discover a, well big problem , it wont hold us back from National, but we did miss it previously & well have to get it done soon. see pic. this is off another members car, just to show position:
This is mine. u can see its taken a serious hit or 2 over the years & well.... its full or rust! DOH! so thats another job for me man Dave...
but looking on the bright side, we can still go to Nationals...pfew!!!!!! so c u all soon
ciao

Re: FINALLY!!!! Introducing Sam's FB ute -
G'day all,
well after a productive week at the Mechanics, the Thrust Baring problem is gone. While we had the box out we put a new clutch & a few other bits n bobs.
Also, after a very bizzee weekend, WE - (got the old man & 2 x Bother-in-laws) to help me put finishing touches on the ute.
The tray wood / strip is complete. I'm really, really happy with the end result. Thanks to Blue Ute & Dave Mac for their help on the paint colour & inspection plates specs.
We tried to keep it as close to factory original specs, But decided to not install the screw in the wood edges. see photo. Im going to put up a bit of a spec sheet / topic in the Technical / Body, Paint and Panel for future reference. For example the skid strips have 6 holes. 5 counter sunk screw holes. then 1 that is NOT countersunk . it's the hole closest to body , & takes an 7/16 bolt which screw into a recessed tread in the tray lip. stay tuned for that tread.
see no screws in the wood edge, only in the strips
Inspection plate holes to rear shocks
Also installed a repo floor mat... (Sorry Dave couldn't wait) Massive thanks to Martin at Obsolete Rubber matts. he rushed it through & it is great.. You will see in the photos, As we were taking the old one out, the underlay was still good so we just re-used it, but stuck to the underlay was a little note.... A note from the inspector on the factory floor... WOW!!!! that really blow me away. thinking about the last time it was touch.. 50 years ago....actually I was very lucky, I thought it was rubbish, nearly through it out!!!!
Also go the back strap for the canopy... Thanks Dave, they certainly make driving it a bit easier with the canopy.
Before i go on too much more, the highlight of the weekends work was, late sundi arvo the old man says, "well we better go for a drive son!" me him & 1 bother in-law cruzin up the street...... aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa price-less
Looking forward to meeting lots of u at the national...
Over n out
