Here is one of the Last EK's for Sydney. If we find original books like this for each model, it would be pretty clear. About 41% of EK's made in Sydney were 225 (sedan) Total EK's built in Sydney is around to 52,000

You would hazard a guess that even if only 5% remain, thats roughly 15,000 FB/EK's still around

Cal, I think if there is 5,000 left I would be very surprised.

One just has to look at spoto, there is not much turning up that we don't know about.

I guess there is still a few to roll out of the barn and sheds.

Hi Steve.

That car is not quite "one of the Last EK's for Sydney". Its delivery date was 26/6/62 but its production date could've been anything from a week to several months prior to that, depending on how long it sat around in storage yards. This is common towards the end of a model run.

Given that the EJ release was 30/7/62, this car could be many thousands before the 'last' EK 225 was built.

Thanks Doc, I wasn't familiar with the EJ release, thought it might have been May! You are right on the sitting in the big shed or the dealer yard before it find the end user.

We still have to catch up. Are you going to the Grey Pride Run?

174,747 FB's to 150,214 EK's Produced.

Leaves a very interesting question:
Were in the hell are they all now.
Based on NSW total registrations and recorded accidents, the % of vehicle accidents were around 5% of all registered vehicles (1 out of every 20, wow) from 1960 through to 1975, then they started reducing down to 2.5% in 1980 and 1.4% in 2000 and 1% in 2005. Probably due to larger number of registered vehicles as a percentage.

If the same ratio as NSW is assumed across all states and Holdens are assumed to be average in the number of accidents, then we can get a remaining figure as at 2009, based on the number of vehicles produced.

For those that didn't follow, it was painful...........

Anyhow the remaining figure is "FB = 37,191" and "EK = 36,482"
73,673 remaining. Obviously far more than remain in reality.

So lets assume that the 5% accident rate up until 1975, was a result of the type of car produced in those days. No ABS, drum brakes on earlier models, etc, etc then we can assume a constant 5% per year loss rate.
That gives us "FB = 12,460" and "EK = 12,223" Still too high ???? :? :? :? :?
Total of 24,683. This would be the maximum possible.

If we assume another 5% from mechanical failures, rust attacks and unreported accidents, and wrecking yard crushes, etc, then we would go with 10% loss every year since made.

"FB = 835" and "EK = 912" for a total of 1,747
............ :D :D :D

Little facts and lots of assumptions, but it may be close.

If the total number left is 1747, that means Jacko owns nearly half of whats left !!!

I'd say the 5% average for accident rates would't count for these sorts of cars after a while. Most don't get driven daily, so the annual loss due to accidents would be much lower.

I'd be very surprised if there are only about 1700 cars left

Sorry finny but you lost me with your formula :?: :?: :?: but getting to the end result I'm sort of thinking, at a guess only, around the same numbers that you have come up with, that is,

FB approx 835

EK approx 912.

Most likely only some of these on road, rest as projects and remaing as wrecks/parts cars.

A few more pointers for the punters:
1960 FB wagons were also produced in Adelaide.
As said vans were also out of SA.
This was because it wasnt cost effective to press the different panel shapes at all factories.
Also some Brisbane sedans were shipped fully assembled by rail from Sydney. As 98 Nationals winner was one of these cars.
As far as cars went sitting around in lots/dealerships for months it was the reverse. Most were sold months in advance! Commercials were often sold when the newer models sedans were already released as the commercials were often later in production due to the different panels having to be pressed. Luckily FBs used the same rear on commercials as FE/FC so there wasnt a big lag in production.

SunnyTim wrote:I think you'll find there is a lot more than that around.
FB's and EK's had no plates between NJR-000'ish and NOU-999'ish in Qld.
Around 10 years ago we queried the Transport Dept database and found that there were > 400 cars registered as 'Holden' between this configuration. Obviously this doesn't cover any car that has been re-registered or was currently unregistered - it simply listed those cars still on original plates and before the time of lots of re-issued plates
Just checked the numbers and using the same assumptions the 400 cars still registered in 1999 would now be 139 in 2009.
Assuming re-registered and unregistered, it's still probably about right :D :D
Although still based on very questionable data. :?

That is what Sam Crupi said at the Nats, so many guys are doing up these models and are buying scuff Plates from him. These cars have not seen the road, well not yet anyway!
