Go for a 350 holley and a good set of extractors/exhaust system add in and electronic dizzy and it'll be a cheap start. Maybe stick a 5 speed box behind it as this will allow a lower diff gear to aid in acceleration.

Keep your eye's peeled for a yella terra head then add a cam later and you'll be having a whole heap of fun for little outlay. A healthy and well setup 202 can beat a 307 chev powered HQ to 100mph

Well now i am thinking of going a standard stormberg carby and exhaust. I will just freshen up a few bit like better cam and yerra tella valves springs. Also i would rebuild the carby. Also i don't plan to go to 100mph. Also i would do a full gasket rebuilt kit. I will try to do all this myself and if i need help i will just ring up someone who is willing to help me.

'Fraid not :D Aaahhh the good old days.... Think I would have had my car impounded a few times

You should of seen the owners face of the HQ once he found out what I was running, a 202 with basically a stock bottom end but balanced, 138 Yella terra Head (yes it pinged a bit!), recurved single points dizzy, 4 barrel carb through an EH 3 speed still column shifted and a HR rear running 3:55 in an EK ute. Plus the whole thing owed me less than 2 gees.
His HQ eventually went real quick, but that was way more than I'd have spent!

SPL a my current EK runs a stock 161, trimatic and 3:36 rear. Good and reliable and not quite enough ooomph, the 202 should give you a good running reliable car. Especially with the basic changes you want to do.

SPL, I have a yella terra head as well! Its a 202 head been modded for 186, double valve springs, Big ports and i'll sell it to ya cheap. Another thing, If you get the hitorque starter it will give you more clearence for extractors!

As Devilrod said, I'd stick with a 350 Holley. I once tried a 500 Holley on a warm 202 I had and, although most of the time it ran well, it flooded like crazy if you were idling for too long.

You gotta watch what diff you run too. I had a 3.36 diff in that car, and changed to a 3.55 when the original one blew. I found it actually went slower over the 1/4 mile.

All depending on power, revs, etc, but you can actually end up going slower, acceleration wise, by going to a higher (numerically) diff ratio

Theo Z those yella terra head would cost me a mint to buy second hand from you, New they cost around $1100 i think. Also they would make the car run on un-leaded fuel then?

Also Cal i will be running a VN diff with disc brakes.

I got a starter motor today for $130, just a cheaper versoin of the bosch. But today i got a few things for the engine intake manifold,oil/fuel filter, starter motor,exhaust/intake gasket manifold and a diaphgram Kit.

If you have it in 2 weeks i will buy it from you. It will fit a 202 head right?

Would i need anything else to make it fit or is it just a direct bolt on item?

Well today i fitted the intake manifold and just cleaned up the engine ready to be painted. I took the rocket cover off and to my surpise it was pretty clean in there. Here is a pic
