Sikaflex? doesn't that stuff dry like cement when cured. What it you want to take the harness out for some reason. All I have done is get some 22mm flex conduit and got some gromets to seal it off. When I get it back from repair I will do the water test but I think it will not leak. Just throwing it out there : :) .

As far I new Sikaflex was 'FLEXable'
Apparently there is a type of Sikaflex that is non acidic that won't harm any of the plastic etc.
I'll work this part out though when I get to it

But anyhoo, I went and cut the rails off tonight
So much for doing it in the next week or so, should have said in the next 24hrs

Thanks for you input fellas........

Just my opinion..

There are a number of Sikaflex products - the one I have used is 221 - it comes in either black or white.
This one can be primed and painted - and I haven't found that it goes rock hard. It dries to a very tight packed rubber like finish over time, but don't crack.
Like most things I think it is down to how you prepare something like this - usually the place you fix it to is what will let go - not the sealant.

As EKSPCL says - it's non acetic - it won't eat into paint work or cause metal to rust under the paint .... at least it hasn't on mine over the past 15 years.
I used ordinary silicone sealant years ago and it cause the metal to rust - a plumber told me there is one which won't do this - but I'm not risking silicone again.

I have used both 221 and also butelmastek to seal stuff up - neither of them have leaked or broken open - but I did a good job and kept everything tight.
Butelmastek is the stuff they seal our windscreens up with - comes in a few colours.

Well I now have a concealed "wiring tube"

This is what I came up with........

Image

I just cut the tube the length of the drip rail and bent it to the same curve to follow the guards.

I was going to use round tube, but thought it might catch too much dirt.
At least this way the bulk of the crud will wash off.

I also filled the tube with enamel paint to stop the rust

I can't take the applause for the idea,
TREV and BLACKY worked together as a 'team' and gave me this idea earlier in this post
