Feel happy to know someone that lives so close (10doors up) that's an EK fan. Not just because he's helping us with KC but mainly he's taught us heaps about them, what to look out for, what's nasco accessories, where they're prone to rust, good things in engine bay and lots of other little but important things that's made our Holden search easier & enjoyable. Lots of tips & good advice, what a relief. Not to mention we get to see his lovely EK 90% of our visits there & his wife is a absolute sweetheart. Just a great couple to know basically & is nice to have a common interest as an extra bonus

Well things are coming along well with the body repairs so far. Since we already had the rear windows out for the rust repairs, and were soon going to remove the front windscreen for a bit more rust work, we came to the decision that while they were out we might as well replace the headlining , oh and respray the roof as well! The roof was still in its original paint and was starting to show its age, and so was the roof lining.
Anyway after a couple of hours of carefully working the rubber with a screwdriver the front windscreen was out in one piece:
The roof lining was removed.
That cardboard kind of lining stuck to the roof was removed after a few hours work with a paint scraper to reveal...you guessed it.... more rust!
Gave it a hit with a wire brush for a bit of a tidy up. Thinking of using por15 to treat the inside of roof section after reading some positive posts about it.
The roof has been taken back to bare metal. I have never done this kind of work before so was keen to learn some tips of the trade off Ron.
We first applied a reasonably thick coat of paint stripper to sections of the roof. After 15 minutes or so we worked the paint off with a paint scraper. This first step basically removed the top coats of paint and left the brown coloured primer still pretty much intact on the roof.
Next we applied a thinner coat of paint stripper, only this time we worked the remaining paint off with some coarse steel wool , regularly rinsing the steel wool in water.
Next we applied some rust converter and let it sit on the roof for bout half an hour.
We then rinsed the whole roof down in water and dried the roof off.
The roof came up well. It took the two of us the best part of a day to get the roof up to this stage. Just two tiny dings in it to be repaired. Ron is going to sandblast the gutters today. If all goes well the roof should be in primer by the end of the day.

All I did to KC was get the black goo off from windscreen. Took a couple of hours but was kind of fun. Was very sticky stuff!
They've given me another little job to do today (because I harrassed them for something to do) which I'm looking forward to. It's fun working on your own car, even being able to help in a small way is satisfying.

hi lulu, great progress. it does of course explain why my family hasn't seen KC driving around. i asked my dad to keep an eye out for her but to no avail. i am getting soo impatient with not having one yet, but all is not lost. my dad and i are going looking at a couple on the weekend, going to do nearly 1500kms in the weekend. not good when your driving in a diesel troopcarrier. Kim and I are hoping to get some free time soon to come up to kempsey and say hi.... again, great work
P.S: lu, the little jobs like the black goo make the end result hugely neater, don't let hubby have all the fun. luke and kimmy

She's coming along nicely. Last week I blew my first pay on new headlining & a bonnet emblem. While most chics would by clothes & make-up, I get car stuff
Thank god bexterity is a forum member. It's nice to see another female in here that can probably relate.

parisian62....ta. I went up the other day to help with the cardboard but Ro had already scrapped it all. I asked how it went, was it difficult to get off and he said Yep & then did this>>

Thanks Luke, she's coming along great! Really need to update this post with all the pics and news. Heaps more has been done and have lots of photo's of the progress too. Some sections have been sprayed blue. If it's not raining tomorrow the bonnet will be sprayed.
