and im fine with that ratbox
i've found when i have to work on my car all the time to get something done i begin to loose interest and generally probably don't put as much effort in, where as if there is no dead line and i can just do it whenever i feel like it i get more satisfaction from it and generally a better end result... but thats just me ... now where did i put my walking stick

Hey all,
Sammy, Sorry I did misread your post but you nailed it on the head with your working out of it.
This sucker is gunna have one (or several) of them there old fangled carby type things on her.
OK, I've started pulling the old girl apart
Who ever did the previous repairs on this car needs *&#*@*#en.
I cant believe this was a car that was hired out and registered as a hire car up until a couple of months ago.
So here we go with a few pickies of what I'm up too.
So far the motor, gearbox, front end and all front panels are off

Right hand front sill corner, notice the quality repair on the sill.
The right side of the subframe had nearly 20 mm of movement up & down.

This is the inner left front sill area where the subframe bolts onto the body.
I guess nuts were optional on these bolts on EK's.

This is how you hold a sway bar on then the bolts are too hard to get out when broken off.
Three good hits with a hammer & cold chisel and it was off.

Now I guess when the lower legs on the subframe rusts, and get replaced, welding these on properly is
also optional.
Good thing its not structural

I think this may be the wrong way to make an auto fit when the car is a manual bodied car
Good thing this is not structural as well

Then the bits that aren't bodged up are rusty.

Can't wait to get this thing sandblasted, it should look like swiss cheese.
But then again I shouldn't have expected much more after looking at the wheels that it had on it,
forged into the wheel casting is the words, trailer use only.
Cheers

The amount of time avalible for me to do it, and my patience level
seem to be at the other ends of the scale to yours ratbox.
Each to their own.
Good luck with your rebuild Mal

Yes I must admit the FB was in a lot better condition than this car. And I still think this car is in good shape compared to what some have started with.
I'm surprised that when the woman drove it into a tree it didn't fold in half.
Hey Jeff, I certainly won't be racing anyone to get this car finished.
Now its just a mission getting into the shed to work on it without the missus seeing. I don't think she's been into the shed since I wheeled it in there.
So far EK 1 - garden nil.

Mal,
amazing...it looks like it was a death trap.
maybe the gardening you could do would be to plant some camouflage to help get to the shed wthout being seen...
regards
Stewart

Maybe hitting the tree was for the better anyway,
At least it will be done properly now with Malcolm at the helm
Still hard to imagine that was a hire car.I would have assumed that it would have been under tighter safety scrutiny by the QLD registration authority to be allowed to operate as a hire car and carrying public passengers??.

I can't think what to write here so this will do.
