I used rust converter, then a real good enamel paint , keep it shiny and non porus under there.

When I stipped the chassis on my old four wheel drive i used a sanding disk for a 6 inch grinder not a flapper one like you fit to a drill but a flattened out version looked like a grinding disk covered in lots of pieces of sand paper it ripped the body deadener of like you wouldn't believe

Yes Craig,
those disks come in different grades of grit - the rip at the surface very efficiently without taking a lot of "meat"

Thanks Craig and Rosco...have tracked down those disks...many thanks...they work a treat...
update of the work that was done on Sunday 28...
I used those disks to clean the bracing and also used a die grinder and rust converter...
I primed, then painted and sprayed weld thru on the inner sill and tops of bracing...
Meet Loui...my welder guy...He used small screws through the inner sill and bracing to fit the pan securely in place and then cut the final fit hole using a reciprocating saw...
Loui tack welding into place..
Loui spot welding onto inner sill...
an arty shot with the future 'hot' grey...
wooohoooo! its fitted...
some more welding to be done but it's basically there...
A very happy day for me as its the first step on the long road towards putting the EK back togather again...
Next is the bottom of the A pillar where the subframe bolts on...it's flapping in the wind...scary stuff...
Now the rebuild has started I have no excuses not to start a rebuild thread under My FB/EK...

Gives us re-assurance that what we (backyarders) are doing may just be nearly correct..........
When we look at a vehicle which is cleaned up and on show - this is the stuff most others are ignorant of............

Hey Stewart,
I hope the long drive to my place wasn't a disapointment!
Your car will be good because of the care you are taking with the prep work.
Its a long haul but you just have to keep ploding along till it all comes together.
Just to see you and talk old holdens today gives me a little more inspiration to get my finger out and finish my car.
Anyway if I can help in any other way let me know.

Looking very good, love the pictures, keep them coming and keep up the good work.
I think there's a fantastic quality of workmanship coming from the humble back shed these days, more so than workshops.

No mate. Certainly not disappointing. It was good to catch up and talk shop with another FB EK'er, and many thanks for the fuel tank surround. It will be put into good use. You've got a lot on at the moment after moving house and getting ready for Bathurst at Easter...get stuck into the EK after that...
Malcolm - thanks for that. Most of the real work is done by Loui but I'm learning along the way which for me is what its all about. Looking forward to seeing the EK at Yamba.

hey there Hold-on-ekky,
thanks for the interest...yep we're still welding, grinding and chipping away...other rear passenger side is done plus some underfloor box section and we are just about finished the front drivers side which was a major undertaking as the section where the front subframe bolts to the inner rail was goooone...
I knew this before it was all started...the EK was my Grandad's first car...there is a brief bit about it here

Hi Wayne,
It was blasted at Austec Dry Stripping at Chipping Norton. They used plastic to remove the paint and garnet to remove the rust. For contact details see
