I bought the car off a mate and he had already put the plates on the car, so they came with it.

Cheers

Sam I reckon HRs need to be dumped level all round as opposed to raking with EKs.
If you go white walls Id say go all the way with the theme not half way.
Whites ,venetians ,moons or flipper/fiesta's ,tuck n roll or mexican serapes courtesy of mini  (theres my plug) . and definetely a neutral body colour with dramatic roof colour.
and an overall theme design can be found on any cool mid 60s impala in lowrider mag or custom rodder etc
This pic is of the last rust repair job but I think the chrome trim on the roof divider would work awesome on a HR even if they didnt come out that way ,and at a guess it would almost bolt straight on.

A mates HK - I never looked twice at untill I saw it develop with its Moon style that I thought was for earlier period cars - I cant get my photobucket account to work to show you but if you have seen it around HKMOON plates.
And theres a black HR with an FJ grille in it (which dont suit in my opinion) but its von dutch style striped ,red wheels and fiesta caps and tuck n roll - its cool as but a tube grille would look better on a squarer car in my opinion.
Easily distracted angle manipulator extrordinaire.

Metalic roof, matching wheel color and nutral body color, sound like a great combo to me. Infact it sounds just like Devilrods car, one of the best EK's I've seen.

Gday Sam
I have an idea for a different style.
A classic early 70's Australian street racer.
Chrome reverse rims 13x6 & 14x8
or US racer mags (Fats all round)
Square edge Mickey Thompson Indy Profile tyres on the rear
Hot red motor with triple webers or SU's
Prem buckets with 4 or 5 speed shifter between them
LC/LJ Torana diff (to fit the wheels) with tramp rods
HG Grille & HD stone tray ( to fit indercators)
White paint / Black interior
Red coloured mechanicals(Motor/Gearbox/Diff Housing), with a splash of chrome
Standard height at the back
Lowered a little at the front

I had a couple of mates with HR's that fit this formula back in the Mid 70's.

Best of all, its a dinkum piece of Aussie Culture 8)
Not a Yank flavoured car (not that there's anything wrong with that)

EK61 has got it in one. My mate has a HR same colour combo. We dumped it on its arse and it really looks the goods. Kept it stock as a rock otherwise with a few prem bits added on, you cant go wrong. To start with we completely took out the 2 front springs. I even drove it like that!!!! I will see if he has any pics, but Im sure i will get shit canned when i get someone else to post em.........!!!!!!!!

the shit canner has got the shits and mooved on, not that that's a good thing
i have pics of one somewhere that used to do the sydney shows years ago, same colours, torana chromies and on it's guts and i meen extremely low sills would have only been 2-3" off the ground don't know how he used to drive it around, it looked great 8)
you would get the same effect but more to yor likeing doing what ek61 said re:hub caps @ dress rims

Haven't been on for a while, so sorry thommo for not comenting on your post, I can appreciate what your saying with the Aussie styled HR but not really what I'm after.

Thanks guys for all your input, I appreciate it.

I'm going to go with what I had in mind to start with.

Original body colour, white roof with some white miniflake added to final clear coats to give it a bit of sparkle.

Wheels will be painted same as roof, spider caps on the front with dress rims, dress rims on the rear as most of the wheel will be hidden by spats.

Wheels will be shod in thin whites.

Sunvisor when I find one, and already fitted the venetian.

Interior when I get to it will be similar to body colour and white tuck and roll. I'll also paint the steering wheel same colour as roof, sunvisor and wheels.

This is my plan anyway, hopefully I can acheive it over the next six months or so.

Oh and lowered is a must, just come in from the shed after lowering the rear.

Cheers

Sam :D
