Started and finish my Nats prep today.
A quick wash and wax of the wagon and a quick wax of the boards for better air flow.
.
When I saw the Litchfield Brake clamps, it brought back memories of when I worked there in the mid 80's. Nearly 11 years making service tools of the auto industry.

I’ll be happy when I get to the cleaning stage that’s for sure. But at least I’ve got a motor in the car. All credit to you for where you’re up to at the moment Clay.

Back to it. Been a while since I’ve had the head under the bonnet of the EK. Found corner of said bonnet with the top my head. Oh yeah, that. Pumped a bit of auto trans fluid into the bores, let it sit for a while and gave the fan a spin. Everything moved ok. Cranked it for a bit without the coil attached to dizzy as per Harv’s suggestion then gave it a proper go. It didn’t like the fuel in the lines but sorted itself out after a bit.

Noticed some air bubbling into the fuel pump. Found an old fowlers jar in the shed and direct fed the fuel pump from it and a bit of hose and it ran fine. Oh yeah, bonnet again...
All good. Working back had a go with the flexible line in play. Seemed to bubble a bit but could have been the sloppy barb connection. Bushed the Flexi line and connected fuel line from tank to the fuel pump with fuel hose, thread tape and hose clamps.
All good. So I need a new flexible line. Saw a post about it from earlier so will have to order one of those. Will continue with the farm fix for now with the hose neatly tucked away from the fan....

The fuel bowl doesn’t have any bubbles coming through now but the fuel bowl is not completely filling. It’s about 15-20mm from the top. Is that normal or do I need to give it a longer run? Just didn’t want to gas myself in the shed tonight so didn’t run it for too long (still haven’t got wheels back on..)

Been thinking about it for a while. What’s the crap under the bonnet? From what I’ve read recently I think it’s original. Anyone know what it’s made of? Looks a bit asbestos like. I love my car, but not to death... Bugger, bloody damn bonnet (times about 4 more times).

That bonnet insulation was standard fit to Hydramatic cars Andrew. Looks rather tatty now.

I seem to be constantly glancing suspiciously at my fuel bowl, which is why I overhauled it. I’m still concerned that the reused welch plugs won’t hold. You could fit a new pump for around $100.

In the past I have done away with the old flexible hose and used modern fuel hose with an inline filter.

In reality my only issue was that I needed to crank the engine for about 30 seconds to get the fuel up after sitting for one week.

I seem to recall the fuel level in the glass bowl sits a little down from the top when the motor is running, but I'm sure someone will set us straight?

The sound pad was there on hydras to muffle the "click click whirr" of the auto Knox auto carpets advertise under bonnet sound pads , maybe they could sell you a sheet and you could use whats left of the old one as a template ?

Thanks Blacky. Couldn’t find the under bonnet on their website? How much noise do they make anyway? Have hardly heard mine in the last 5 years! Not sure if I’d bother replacing it if it comes out. I reckon it would fall to bits too.

Many years ago before the crusher went through the big yard at Warnertown near Port Pirie, I got one out of a wreck and used the wire retainer in my sedan. Bit of old carpet under felt wrapped in sisalation. Very lucky it never caught fire.

Thanks Clay. I think I’ll probably leave it or bush it completely. Will sort it out after the Nats. Bonnet might stay down at the show! It’s not a show car and I’m not a trophy hunter so it’s a win win

Brakes bled up ok but still got a long pedal. Need to play with the adjustment. I could see at least one adjuster moving way too far at the front. I’ll have a bit more of a play and then check through Robs rear handbrake gotchya issue that I read about on another post.

Ordered a new flexible fuel hose from eBay. “Should” arrive in time. If it doesn’t I’ll have to redo the farm fix.

Started and stopped under its own steam. First time out of the shed in about 5 years.... Definitely needs a clean.
