I've done a few normal screens and a laminated one on the Stude.

I will give it a go fingers crossed.

My trial Rare Spares rubber arrived today so that's goods news, I can move on with some putting back together. ( Please thank Dave for the opportunity to trial it.)

I will do a comparison between the Rares and Better Auto rubber and trial fit before I fit the glass. A bit nervous because of the laminate but the guy who supplied it gave me a few pointers.

Ok Long winded post !

Started the windscreen rubber comparison this morning

Competitor rubber is smaller in diameter and tighter (smaller) in the opening than the rares one. This is good for me as I dont have to stretch the rubber around the laminated screen. It actually fits it very well.

I checked the fit to body of the trim pieces and put them in using lots of soapy water, when you squeeze the trim in you can hear it click over the rubber lip. If its not right then there will be lumps in the rubber along the window glass. Squeeze and work it till they are in place.

Not real hard and took me about on hour all up. Final product

All the trim fits in well
Taped the opening so no scratching. I have to put my drip rail molds on then I can give the screen a go !

This will be interesting to see fitted, mine was fitted a little while ago, (by the panel shop), has a much bigger gap at the top and the mould at the top not close enough to the body for the clip to fit the retainer, not filling out the bottom corners of the body, think it's a rares rubber from when Scoob built her. Was mastic'd between the glass and rubber and the rubber to body, bloody shit everywhere, didn't leak though, think mine will need some reworking.

Hey Greg, probably a bit late now, any chances of a close up of the clip retainer screw hole at the top, mine seems to have been filled up, don't know where it's supposed to be.

Mine too. Took a lot of fiddling around with a podger to find the trim screw holes once the screen was in place.

I learnt a lesson recently from a wise man with a Wedgwood Blue ute... when welding, bogging and painting, put self tappers in those holes. That way they are still "there" when it comes time to put the screen in.

Briby's comment re the joiner piece at the top of the screen not fitting with the new rubber is interesting. The same happened too me - I used the Better autos rubber. I think it must be a little too "full" or "thick" because when I went to fit the original joiner, it fell into the gap. I solved the problem by making a new, wider joiner out of a section of a spare bottom corner piece, which is the same profile. Fraze

My advice is to trial fit the trim using small clamps to hold it against the lip, unless you are reusing your original trim. The centre fixing can be cut from a bit of body sheet, the thinner 20#, and this bears on the highest part of the trim, just below the roof line. You can see in the photos that I had to redrill mine. My ute originally had painted mild steel trim which was too rusted to reuse, so sourced the commoner stainless special trim. I will fill all the holes with windscreen sealant when I put the screen in.

Its obvious that every car will be different because of the hand made aspect, the hole in mine seems to be lower than Clay's and to be honest I cant find or remember seeing that clip when I pulled the screen out.
