Great info Billy and Errol, thanks, there’s some crazy chemicals involved and associated dusts- I’ll be wearing my full face respirator and working outdoors for sure.

When the book arrives and I’ve read it and become an armchair expert I plan on taking a mould of a chromed front bumper section and producing my first piece from that. (even though I’m sure the weight savings of a bumper probably aren’t worth the effort). Will the smooth chrome surface pose any problems? Should I ‘dull’ the chrome a bit first with a flap wheel? they’re rusty and dented anyway.

Leave it smooth. One piece bumper with rolled front pan moulded in?

You could try just laying the glass over a layer of glad wrap on top of the bumper. The resin won’t hurt the glad wrap and it breaks the adhesion like the wax.

Good tip. What is the front pan?

The panel under the front bumper. FBs don’t have one. Was an old custom trick to give the F1 ground effect look and improve the aerodynamics. Probably more suited to the salt flat than the drag strip.

I've finally gotten some time off with all the current goings-on and have had a chance to look over the project properly. I've decided on the next step being making up a rotisserie and removing diffs, front end and engine to get at the floors and crossmembers.

Any general hints and tips on the best design of rotisserie, in particular what to bolt to on the car?

I was thinking of starting with 50x50x3 SHS if that sounds about right?

I have some large industrial castors already (around 150mm diameter).

I made mine out of a couple of old engine stands and used the bumper mounts to attach it but the point of balance is way above the bumper mounts, like 300mm above or somewhere around there.

The square tube will be good, as long as it is 1.6mm. Assuming you take off the front subframe then the bonnet hinge holes are good to use at the front. At rear I used bumper mounts, as well as a long bolt through the rear spring hanger.

My rotisserie I bought off a guy who built it for a hq ute. He modified two heavy duty engine stands. When I set the body up on it I then laid two 2” galv pipes between the bases and welded them on. Agricultural but rock solid.

Be sure and build in vertical adjustment to your body mounts so you can balance the body. On a sedan the fuel filler hole is about centre of gravity axis at the rear.

Make sure you paint the rotisserie if you’re using it on an FB otherwise it will rust!

Sorry to steal the thread but surely somebody has drawn up a rotis properly, I am going to need one soon for my next project and the one I used on Frankenstein was borrowed from an FC friend so if anybody has one I can borrow in WA or a good set of drawings I can make one from I would appreciate it.
