Let me know how it goes if you go the 4 speed behind the red.

Currently have a 3 speed auto VK commodore box behind the 179 was thinking about a box upgrade as its pretty sloppy and slow to shift. Do the turbo 350s line up on the red blocks or is anadapter needed ?

Id go bigger then a V6 for a conversion, the headache involved better to save up a little more and just go for the most possible !!! My sedans currently getting a SBC with 671 supercharger.

only reason i was thinking V6 was for economy and i have 1 down the back
i'm also considering 308 i've done this before and it's easy,i'de hate to fit the 308 and find out it is realy thirsty, although there usually not to bad

Rat if you have the parts mate go for it !!! God knows you look pretty handy with the tools.

What would you be up for ?
- Front end ( and the new fronts adapt existing breaking by looks of it )
- Cross member / chassis kit
- shortened diff
- brake set-up ( booster and lines) and fuel plumbing ( possibly tank )
- engineers cert (cant think of much else)

Missus has a VR commodore V6 on gas , nice performance vs petrol ( not much of a drop in power) and extremely cheap to run !!!

not really that much cause i'de just mount the rack on my front end i've already got H/KTG discs would have to do dual circut brakes already have chassis kit would just leave standard diff and then the fuel setup

Sounds like a plan Rat !! Hmmmm possible to hook a centrifugal supercharger to the V6 engines ? That would be interesting to see !!!

Heres some pics Ive just taken , forgive the quality as the camera is pretty shitty ( it hooks up via a serial connection !!! 12 pics max !!! )

Here the van sporting the dragways - lowering required ! but driveway could rival Mount Everest so need to becareful with height of body for enrty onto the road.

Image

Heres the 179 which will replace the current 179 in the bay ......
Specs - Bored 192, 40/80 cam, ported heads with larger valves and yella roller rockers, 350 holley with 465 jets. Doesnt look like much but does the job.

Image

Heres the 9inch for the rear - drum covers to be repainted, colour match the van or maybe a darker blue.

Image

And finally heres the chicken burgers the missus just whipped up for me !!

Ok so not only is the sedan off the road..... panelvan has been out of rego for a bit and needs a blue slip to convert it to NSW. So the work begins .......... heres some shots of the engine bay cleaned out and cabling removed.

Note the odd cross member mounts .... as odd as they seem , they worked from Melbourne to Sydney and dont appear worn or likely to cause problems. Centered also so alignment appears good !

Will eventually go for another V8 thou.

Just need something running (registered) so I can join the NSW Club and get about !!!

The panelvan has been coming along well -

Image

Has now got the turbo 350 gearbox installed and 9inch. The converter has been purchased and was soon to be fitted ............. I have purchased a V8 front cross member shortened rack, extractors to suit SBC and a shortened steering column from Ben (penguin) off the FE-FC forum (didnt realize we had so many members from this site on the other site also).

Image

Image

Below are the shots of the straight 6 that is currently sitting in the van , which now maybe ripped out, for the V8 front .......... and SBC

Image

Image

Pain in the arse that I spent a fair bit on fixing up the straight 6 , convertor and the CRS adaptor ..... but thats just how life is I guess hahahaha. Just lucky to get the V8 gear cheap and I know a cheap SBC that Gino wants to offload to make way for a BBC. May need to flog the conversion gear and straight 6 off it seems

that 9" is currently being shipped to me :)

cheapest i got quoted to build me one was about 2.5k, picked this one up (less centre) for $586 :)

had to get a special order set of rear convos to suit.... oh the hassle of getting wheels in OZ..... cheaper(by over half price including airfreight from the states) than what you can get them for at rocketindustries.......

mephious that van is looking great :)
cheers
Jason

Good to hear Jas, nice work on the 9inch !!!

If your running HR discs up front the Hk - Ht pattern is the same.

For reference Hk - Ht is same FE thru to HT pcd 5 x 4.25 from memory
