Next up rear seat belt fit up.

Plan is to recess reels down 40mm.

you may find a bit of boot bracing under those locations for the hinges and stuff in those spots... (not saying it can't be done)

this is what i did to fit them neatly... a little bit more centre than you want them but it works... i don't plan to ride in the back anyways haha

Well another week down, no where near as much done as I would like but got some good hours in never the less.

started off by folding up some seat belt recess boxes.





Once that was done, marked out where they had to go in the car and cut a good chunk of the metal I had just replaced in the car.

Note boot hinge support bar in the road.



Cut the bar out to drop the new box in.



Seat belt sitting in there to make sure I was on the right track.







Had a read of the relivent VSB

Note sizes required



Cut the reinforcing plates out of 3mm plate, they ended up being bigger than required (80mm x 60mm). Also installed some locating 5mm screws to stop it spinning.





Note the bevel on the edge and also the radiused corners as per the rules.



Reinforcing plate will be held up with some nyloc nuts (not tightened up to tight)



I then cut the other side into the car



Tacked the corners into place



Then cut the wings off (originally thought I may need them... plans changed along the way)



Ground the edge of the box flush with the parcel shelf one side at a time



Ran a 1mm cutting wheel up between the to edges to be welded



Welded one side and then moved onto the next



Ground smooth



Welded the boot hinge support bar to the box from under neath



These are the instructions from the seat belts that I'm fitting



The supplied washer that spaces the seat belt reel up (refereed to as ''trim spacer'') this will space the reel above the locating screws.



Now back out to the shed to finish the other side

I remember seeing your post years ago lol.

I have plans of putting my kids in the back of the car and their car seats really require the belts to be as far out from centre as possible. (Their seats really don't fit in old cars... had them in both the EJ sedan and 64 Pontiac)

When I brought the belts over 12 months ago I never planned to be doing any more with them, than drill a hole and put a bolt through the parcel shelf. If I was to do the job again, I would have brought a set of belts like the ones I have for the front and mount them in the boot space. Vertical orientation as apposed to horizontal.

Looking good Jon , also look's like you have got a pretty good work area in the shed happening . Bit of time and money gone into setting yourself up . As you were saying , keep it on the road as much as you can between job's as thing's can blow out very easily .

Gap the boot lid up properly, fill in a few required holes... trailer plug, badge holes and the like.

Might look at doing a cable release on the boot lid to get rid of the key hole on the boot.

I have had a really crap set up shed for years and years, everything piled on everything. I got my ass into gear in the last few months, sorted it out with good shelving and redesigned lay out.
I can now say I enjoy working in there and make point of keeping it usable.

Hey Guys,

Small update on some slow progress.

Started off Saturday morning with intentions of working on getting the gaps better around the boot lid.



Thought it was a good idea to strip the paint off to do so around the edges to give me the best idea on what areas need work.



Then got to the point where i said to myself I've gone this far why not keep going!



Plan is to have no badging on the boot lid.

Beaver panel is surprisingly good rust wise. Does have the almost factory bumper section join dents in the beaver though.



Worst of the rust on the drivers corner.



Saturday afternoon I went for a drive to Woodstock to pick up a panel cut for an idea that'has been kicking around in my head.

Plan is to recess the fuel filler like on the utes, vans and wagons. Small custom touch that should look factory when finished.



After a quick blast this morning.



Also knocked most of the dents out of the beaver this morning.

This week I should hopefully get to fixing the rust, make a start on getting the fuel filler recess into shape and position

i'm a fan of the recessed filler, i chucked an XB falcon tank in and used a wagon cut to make it look someone stock.

Not for some time now, have recently moved house and am still in the process of sorting the new shed out.

Here is a recent quick snap of all my rusty junk at the new place.



Will post an update some on where the car is up to and hope to get back working on it soon.
