Just purchased this one off ebay a supra alloy 5 speed with a CRS bell housing and CRS forward shift kit (not entirley sure what a foward shift kit achieves yet but they are $250 new). All I need to do now is organise freight from Bega to Wodonga, freight is proving to be difficult, any tips? Oh I paid $1100, I think that is ok.

I won't be putting a v8 in it (would be nice though), I am in the process of having the machine work done on my red 202, it will bored out to 208 (60 thou over, mainly because it needed it), starfire rods, 10:1 compression, mild cam, the red head is being ported and polished with XU1 valves in it and I am probably going to keep the double barrel stromberg I have and everything else engine wise is yet to be decided. Should get the block and head back this week and will start slowly building it. The 5 speed should be plenty strong enough for my purpose, not sure about my diff, I think it is original EK or possibly a HR one that may have been put in it when the disc brake front end was installed, still havn't worked out how to tell the diffs/axles apart?????

Isn't that just to move the gearstick forward so that it can clear the bench seat when you're changing into 2nd & 4th gear?

I've seen some guys have had to cut a divot out of the seat so that the gearstick has enough room.

I believe one of the major reasons for the column-shift was so that 3 people could sit across the front seat in comfort, and Aunty Gladys would keep her modesty intact if there was a sudden stop.

a 308 centre is perfect for that setup , no labouring off the mark with goood highway revs.
more punch off the line go a 336 .
basing it on 14 inch rims with average profile.

Will that go in my existing housing? What is the ratio of a 308 centre?

yep it will bolt in to your housing , from memmory if you get an early commodore centre rather than early holden .
you will have to modify 1 bolt by welding a stud in maybe , someone more up to date will have to fill you in more.

Here re some pics of my 202 block after it came back from the engine shop. I gave it a coat of paint and it is covered in transmission fluid all wrapped up in glad wrap, I won't assemble the engine until the body is a little closer to being done.

I think the 202 will do just nice with a full rebuild a mild cam and a little head work with a WW Stromberg. I also had a chat with my local engineer and as I am putting a 202 in I will need a collapsible column, dual circuit brakes, seatbelts, windscreen washers, 2 speed wipers (depending on the speed of the existing ones) and a drivers side rear view mirror. When you read VSB14 it is pretty clear cut what is actually required but at the end of the day they are all pretty sensible safety enhancements so I don't mind putting in the effort.

I finally got it all ready to go to the blasters, I used paint stripper on the roof because I didn't want it blasted because of the heat. I also did a fair bit of work scraping sound deadener of the inside of the rear quarters and of the inside of the roof. My castor set up is simple but does the trick, the blaster are just going to fork it onto some high trestles.

Back from the blasters, there were a few little surprises and definitely some evidence of previous repairs but generally pretty good. Have ordered a set of floor pans from Rare Spares and I have my new transmission tunnel from Waddingtons to weld in too.

Finished stripping and sanding the roof and rear quarters and ready to put a coat of Single Pack Epoxy Etch Primer on it to keep it all protected while I plod away replacing the floor and fixing all the little rust holes.
