I have decided to go a red six, I've picked up a 186 bored to 192 with yellow terra head celica box inc conversion bell housing, so just need to sort other bits and pieces out, best start with form to transport for pre approval :)

Do you's think a original EK (Grey) diff would hold up to the red motor if I put a HR centre in it?

Hi, I haven't read all the posts - too short for spare time atm - but I've converted my grey motor to be able to take regular unleaded fuel/ even E10 (which is a bit "iffy" in many engines). It's great not to have to stuff around at the fuel station measuring the lube additive each time you fuel up. I'm really happy now with peace-of-mind as the engine runs like a new one, fuel efficiency is pretty good too.

Bummer that it cost me $3k to get it done professionally (plus cost of taking it out and putting it back in), but the guys did a great job [ ...thanks again guys if your reading this post... ].

Kind regards - Richard

What's this lube additive of which you speak...

I've used it for about a month then stopped. That was six odd years ago! No problems yet. And a fair chunk has been the ethanol blend as its 95 and cuts a lot of the pinging short of running a bit retarded.

I just tip petrol into the mighty 161 red and drive it.

Been doing it that way now for a lot of kms and a lot of years with no dramas.

You blokes with those primitive greys might have a problem, though.

lol  I'm no mechanical knowledge-giant, but because I drive my ek on a daily basis, the engine had not had anything done to it/ service in 50 years; when I inherited the vehicle the motor was already using lead-replacement additive each fuel-up, and I gathered it would likely break down at the most inconvenient time (which eventually happened right outside Parliament House no less!), so it was time to make sure the grey motor would safely last another 50 years (and get me to work on time… I've exhausted the "I've got mechanical problems" line, lol). Gosh it's a joy to drive now!! Knowing that it is possible to restore vintage vehicles today, and to use them regularly, opens up a new world of opportunity and understanding to a generation x/y/z/alpha/beta… that just sit and play computer games for all hours… :grinnn:

…it's late, I'm raving on - just researching what everyone else does to make their car look good and sustain value...
