Bit of an update guys.

Had some time to remove parts to see how bad the rust was.
Not as bad as I first thought.
I was lucky a mate collects tools and lent me some ASF spanners and shifters.
I had a tap around the floors and under the FB
and most of it sounds solid.
It's covered the gunk which may well have saved the car
A through inspection and assesment by the guy who will be doing the body work
will sort that out.
Looks like I might get away with just soda blasting her.

Doesn't look too bad so far. You wont really know until you have all the seats out and mats up. Blasting will also show up anything else that is hidden. Just about anything is repairable. Yours looks like you have a solid start.

Don't know much about soda blasting. Others will know. Maybe do a search on the Forum for soda blasting. Have you spoken to the rust repairer about soda blasting?

Yeah. I'm happy with it so far, I'm waiting for a assessment from the panel guy after we get the mats up. 8)
He is going to tell me how he needs the FB so he can work on it.
Might save me some money. :lol:
I reckon I got what I expected so I can't complain. :)
I was looking at your grandfathers wagon your working on so I got some ideas from there. :wink:
We have been under the floor with a screwdriver and so far it appears fairly solid..fingers crossed. :roll:
I'm just glad it's not as bad as the black one from Picton...wow. :D

Great Story Wayne,

Like you my first car was an EK henceforth I'm sentimental towards them.

Steve, when I had my first EK (when I was 18) some people from down the road came up and said they liked my 'old' holden (back in 1979 it was still called an old Holden back then! ) and they asked me if i wanted another one!
I went down the road and saw this very original, in good shape 2 tone Green FB. They said they tried to sell it but no-one wants it. My family would not let me keep it in the backyard or out the front - so the people said "take anything you like off it as its going to the tip". I just took a few small bits off it. i can't remember if much was wrong with it at all
It was the same color as Andy Woods FB shown here. A medium green color with lt.green flash - Is this the color you were referring to?

NB- Andy's car got written off in the late 80's when it was hit in the rear real hard (It was being driven by a mechanic- when Andy put it in for a service)

Looks like a good project there mate , I have a good mate that's a soda blaster , he did my car ,but not in soda it's too soft ,you will need garnet for that job. Soda is good for things like alloy heads and motorcycle engines etc good luck

Vapourblasting is even better - check out the Honda CB750 top end and Cagiva 125 crankcases :D

If anyone wants alloy to look like new again vapourblasting / hydroblasting / wetblasting is by far the most thorough process.
I'm doing a set of alloy wheels right now. They came to me looking like crap and are now looking like new again.

I'm in Sydney but get jobs sent to me from all over the place - just make sure the items are registered and insured !

From what sections are available you shouldn't have too much trouble at all patching up the FB but the underlay has to go !!! The steering wheel can be repaired fairly easily - check out the posts in here and maybe over in the FE FC forum too............
