I will check engine number Mick it has the HP wrote
up the front end of the block and nothing else wrote
on the block
i thought the 179 have it wrote on the block
like HP 179
i will get some pics next time i go and see it still have to pick it up
when i make some room :oops:

I have a HP here,engine number starts with M.

179 is NOT cast into the block.

What can you tell me about it,Mick?

The 179 will either have "179" or HP, not both.

I have 179 with the numbers on the block and the engine number starts with 179F.
My mates 179 with the letters "HP" on the block and the engine number starts with a "M" , Trev 8) .

like that site says and trev they have HP only cast on the side which i'm lead to believe is just the early 179, later 179's had 179 and the engine No starts with an M on the HP blocks
a 149 has nothing on the side of the block and if you look at the cast webbing and welsch plugs looks the same as a gray motor 3 large welsch plugs where all the other red blocks had 5, 3 large 2 small
the 149's have a H or 149 at the start of the engine No and now after looking at that link they also have a Y but i've never seen one
