Clay’s Wedgewood Blue FB Ute
Re: Clay’s Wedgewood Blue FB Ute
Thanks rob but I traced the vacuum from said Port to holes just above the idle mixture screw. I had a HX as my second car and remember that they applied advance from the manifold when the sensor on the thermo housing said things were getting hot. They did however apply correct advance signal with increased mixture flow in top gear only. It was simply a matter of deleting the gear selector signal to get advance in all gears, wreaking h@voc on the environment along the way no doubt. Almost as bad as crushing all the perfectly good old cars and building new cleaner ones. I think vacuum from the manifold was used to drive the egr valve, another function I dis@bled on my HX panno. I also r3member the main jets were set up on the lean side on the HX. When I improved flow by fitting extractors I had to go up one or two main jet sizes to eliminate a huge acceleration flat spot off idle.

Re: Clay’s Wedgewood Blue FB Ute
G'day Clay,
A bit more progress which is good to see. I used the same brand heat paint on my intake/exhaust manifold and it has held up very well, however I don't know that my grey will emit quite as much power/heat as your red
Regards
Stephen

Good to know Stephen
It’s hard to know how much effort to put in to the motor when there is a chance I will end up going back to grey power.

G'day Clay,
Sorry for the tardy response... its been a long but fruitful Easter weekend,
Post the stamped numbers from the float bowl lid (or reinforcing bar) and we'll work out the carb. Something like 23-2345.
Cheers,
Harv

Re: Clay’s Wedgewood Blue FB Ute
This picture of X2 set up seems to show the heater and manifold plumbed in series, which would result in no flow to manifold when heater off. That wouldn’t be a problem as the heater would be on on cold winter mornings. Head to heater to manifold to water pump inlet I presume.

Re: Clay’s Wedgewood Blue FB Ute
23-3089 is a BXUV-3 carb, specification 2375150. It was run in Holden 1975 LH and LX Toranas (1975-1976) 173ci six cylinder engines with manual transmissions and commercial chassis cabs (1975-1976) with 173ci six cylinder engines.
I'm on the road for work, and brought the HJ shop manual with me (not the LH and LX ones) as I understood it was a HJ carb from the earlier posts. I'll have a hunt through tonight and see if I can find some better shots of how the vac advance connects. In the meantime, attached below are my notes on the emissions carbs, including the BXUV-3. They are rough, but may help.
Cheers,
Harv

Re: Clay’s Wedgewood Blue FB Ute
Thanks very much Harv,
Very helpful. Your text confirms my observations regarding ported vacuum from the throttle body. I guess I’ll see how it runs using this source and go from there.
Interested to see any images of the HJ vacuum porting.
I thought about replacing the air horn with an earlier one to allow fuel bowl venting to atmosphere as the current state allows for no venting, but will have to check interchangeably.
Many thanks,
Clay

Not much done Gathering more brake parts. Quoted $88 per set to rebond mine which is cheap but I’ve got numerous sets with 4.5mm on the linings. New are 3/16” or 4.75mm.

Re: Clay’s Wedgewood Blue FB Ute
Mate Alec who has an EK Special sedan project on the go told me about Car Parts Plus at Lonsdale. They have very good prices and stock for early Holden stuff. I got another water pump with smaller flange to suit the EH pulley and fan. Other mate hadn't come up with the later fan and pulley so this was easier at $27.50.

Re: Clay’s Wedgewood Blue FB Ute
Rush of blood to the head and I went and laid out another whopping $28 on brake tube and nuts to make up my own. I have tried flaring previously with out much success so I’ve lashed out on the flash flaring tool as recommended by Blacky recently. Currently on special at $243. I plan to run custom line for the van so it’ll get used.
Told me the bleed nuts are obsolete so I’ll take a sample in tomorrow. And yes the nuts are 10mm. Good ol Car Parts Plus.
