taken on sunday with my phone. minus some rust repairs via ms paint, thats how it rides with a boot full of sound equipment and rocks :) later on that day i installed the ej ute shock adsorbers for the rear that my dad got me for christmas. the bum is now alot stiffer and she doesn't bounce like she used to over speed humps 8)

As for the mag wheel saga - haven't done anything. here are some pics of the mags causing all of the dramas.

Iam hoping that when Blacky's mate potentially tries to tackle the rust in a few months, that he will be able to work some magic to give me guard lips like on Blacky's white ek, and hence possibly allowing the mags to fit when i install standard springs. that is all. car is sporting a big stereo with a loud subwoofer and it is really making me have alot of fun cruising. big thanks to adam who hit up freo with me last sat night and showed some of the rice true style  passengers side power window is in, drivers side is still a big bitch. oh well, will get it done sometime :o

andrews fb updated

Mate,

To get the correct offset measurement, measure from the inside of the rim where the wheel bolts on (flat section with the holes in it) out to the edge of the rim on the inside.

cheers

Using Malcolm's described technique, I measure 3.5" backspace. Sound correct?

Hey Aust(mod) didn't you read my reply in your other thread? :? or was I not clear enough? I gave a brief description of the easiest way to measure backspacing and gaurd clearance. Looks like you'll need it to work out your clearance issues...

Or stick with the whites

tailshaft

Post by rosco »

Hi Andrew,
finished surfing the Tech pages - and have to "stay quiet" for the women's beauty sleep.

Can't help with wheels - haven't done that yet.......

I may have missed some of the stuff on this topic but I have taken a trip back on my '82 mod and found the measurements for tail-shafts I researched.

EK manual 53.1" yoke centres
EK auto 50.04" - 27 spline output shaft
HQ 3 sp 4 sp Tri matic all same length

LJ Torana auto 27 spline = 49.5" yoke centres (this is the one I used).

With regard to the pic of those pretty young ladies - they sure framed the FB nicely - but for the time being - stick to the yellow submarine - you can spend heaps of money either way, girls or cars but when your money is all gone, if you make the right choice - you'll still have something which will not think any the lesser of you..........and you can drive it!

It's just finding the one who has a similar conviction.............

Finally an update (well sort of)
1. I still see those ladies a fair bit at parties etc even though school has finished
2. Flappers are gay
3. Tomorrow my car is going in for the long awaited rust repairs. At the same time I am going to get the mag wheels put on, even if it means raising the car 1.5" or so. I am also going to inquire about having a XB/XC fuel tank installed so that my spare can sit flat in the boot, as I have a fair bit of stereo (steg as matty calls it) gear to put in and I still need to be able to carry my Inline Hockey gear. At the same time while it is in the shop (olden holden), I will get the drivers power window working, new hood lining installed and new seals on both windscreens and c windows. A fair bit of work that I can't be bothered doing myself or do not have the know how to do. I hope to be able to watch Tony work on the car to gain some practical knowledge on areas which I know minimal info. While the car is off the road, I will be driving a 1988 Corolla and my Sister's EK. I will use this opportunity to get my tailshaft balanced so that I can cruise at 100kph without feeling a similar sensation to driving over a road with heavy corrugations. I will be getting the car back with undercoat on the repaired sections, and will take this as my first opportunity to try proper spray painting. I have been reading lots of articles on it, and have been through a w/s manual on how to paint, so I hope for the best.... As a side project I also intend to spray some pearl over my white flashes, so anybody with any experience spraying pearls please jump into this thread :) Wow, this is turning into a Rosco-length post... ATM I am finding I am having lots of fun with the 186 in the FB, so will not be doing any engine conversions in the near future as I cannot afford to fund it. I figure getting the oldies to pay for the body work is pretty mean, so I don't really want to hit them up for a RB 30 conversion and a hottie motor. I recently put black carpet into my car and it has improved the look of the interior tenfold. I also today added "surfer feet pedals" and they look the shizzz.
I would like to thank Adam (special K) for cruising with me and diverting my attention away from my fishtanks and into the FB.

End Rant...
Andrew :)

1. You lucky bugger...

2. For me its the real thing or don't bother, I've seen what happens to flappers and I'll stick to the real deal. Personal preference thats all...

3. Sounds like all systems are go! Just remember lifting it may not help solve your clearance problem when all your mates wanna cruise in a real car! Watch and learn and ask questions if in doubt. As for pearl you need a nice steady even coat of paint. Practice a bit first as pearl needs to be applied evenly.

Can't wait to see some updates, even some of the stereo install would be good.

Good Job Andrew!

I dont know if the pictures are still up on this site as i haven't seen them in a while, but if you go through EK283's project log, its got the initial install pics of an XB/C Tank going in, frame & Tank install (if not flick us a pm with your email and i'll send them on), i'll be doing this in the upcoming weeks!

And good decision keeping the 186 for a while, just add some bolt on speed bits to that (hell i'm bolting on a garrett  )

On you sisters EK with the Rack (what oil filter are you using i was told with my filter i would need a starfire adapter as the filter is suppose to foul on the intermediate shaft?

and at least you bastards can cruise around in your FB's! :x

Cheers

Hi NoMad,
I don't think the oil filter was changed on my sister's car. As for the 186, I am thinking about a 4bbl or something but I don't want it to use any more fuel than it does already. I dropped the car in this morning but forgot to ask about a new fuel tank :x I'll ring the guys up later in the week and enquire :)
