hey guys

long time between post i know, but not alot has been happening on the wagon lately but i got my grill back from the polishers yesterday...

check it out, i got them to paint the vertical bars semi gloss blackto blend in with the area behind the grill which will be painted semi gloss black also...

shiny hey...



i'm also off to bunnings today to see if i can make one of those custom grills like spaceace's ute... thanks to DR, space & sputzwagon, i have got the right advice, let see if i can follow through & produce a true custom grill...

i'm off to see the car in a few hours, to drop off my VT commy fuel door!!! hopefully something else has been done so i can take some pics...

hey mate,

let me know when you find them... i was going to ask, where the rods go behind the indicator surrounds, did the 12mm fit in the original slots of did you need to modify... if so how...

today i droped off the fuel door to joe only to find him working on the final touches on the last of the door buttons.... joe's over the door buttons.

anyway, after that i went to bunnings to find myself some shower rods...

i ended up picking a short cut of four different sizes...

10mm = spaceace
12mm = devilrods
16mm = slightly bigger
20mm = huuuuuuuge

so over the next week i'll be playing around with these different sizes & see what i come up with... my wife imput, have the biggest one on top & each one below gets smaller the further down it goes... (not a bad idea)...

will show some different styles later on...

Hi Matty,
your wife's thought will probably look trick.............. like to see a trial shot.
pity you cant' taper the verticals - I would expect the effect to be an illusion..... look as if the grille is sloped back but in fact be vertical.............

I think these are 20mmm on mine, they were squashed at the ends using a vice with wooden blocks to protect the chrome, so they use the standard slots...

I would go with that as well. See goes to you show you that a little bit of the misses input can go a long into making that build a little easier.

Ahh yeah...that's what I was wondering. Custom would be cool, but geez, that grill you've got there is looking mighty sweeeet!

Are you maybe just looking at having a grill to replace for when the mood strikes you??

my wife will be wraped tomorrow, when she find out that she got the thumbs up from the boys on the forum...

the other grill is staying... as it all depends on how the custom one turns out... but even if the custom grill is good i'll still keep the original grill for a spare... and since its been polished, it a pretty hot looking spare...

i'll try a few different looks over the next couple of weeks, i'll post pics for the verdict...

i'm confused about where the wood sits... and also how are the horizontal bar secured to the car...

Matty, He used the wooden blocks to protect the ends of the rods whilst crushing them in a vice, so to prevent damage of the chromework from the vise jaws themselves.
