Sounds like a good mod. Yoots tend to be rusted back there so no reason to be precious about cutting. The original tanks are a bit small for country trips. I wonder what gmh we’re thinking. That is about the one are where my van is not rusty so I’m sticking with the old 9 1/2 gallons.

Hi John good to hear from you mate hope your getting somewhere with your wagon.

Only had Sunday to get into the workshop so finished of the fuel tank mod.
Cleaned up the weld around the fuel tank opening and then Tek screwed the tank in.



Modified and fitted the straps, made the bolts capture bolts by tack welding the head that way only have to undo the nut underneath if tank has to come out.


Fits nicely inside


Removed filler neck from the drivers side and fitted it to the passenger side.

Capped off old filler position.

Neck moved


Finally to finish just gave the tank a coat of paint


One more thing off the long list now to find something else which isn't hard to do.

Neil what you’ve done there I wouldn’t call easy. Moving the neck would be a challenge. Looking nice.

Hi Clay I surprised myself mate moving the neck was actually easier than I thought it is only silver soldered into the tank so I filled my tank with water and then heated the solder, pulled the neck out, used a hole saw where I wanted it to go and then silversoldered it back in and just made a blank and soldered that over the old hole.

Gazza the exhaust in my FC Sedan comes out the back in the original position, it goes up over the diff and then across and and back on the outside of the spring this gets it far enough away from the tank and the engineer was very happy never said a word a lot of vehicles have it like this nowdays.

Thought I would show the area I rolled down to the spare wheel door it shows just high much higher the tank sits into that space


Got into my workshop after work and started making the plate for the mod to the fire wall to fit my 7" double diaphram booster

Seriously though if I am going too far then I will just put a psaree into the tray no problems.

So tackling the brake booster mod to the firewall.
All measured up ready to cut


Well I suppose no turning back now


Tacked in new plate, I'm going to check the booster against the firewall and then weld in and clean up


This mod is the same as Nomad did on his sedan and thanks to Nomad for the advice I ask him the other day.
Next is to modify the pe3dal box to suit and the brake pedal itself.

INTERESTED IN THIS MOD MATE, DID (bloody caps lock) he send you a drawing or something that I can steal to do the same to the 2 door ??

No he didn't send me a drawing I was interested in how much Nathan had cut out and if he had to put spacers between the booster bolts and the firewall or if it sat flush.
I will draw it up for you and give it to you when I see you and you still need to get that tank.

Don't know about being on fire mate just decided the digit had to come out, for reasons that I won't go into it took me 12 years to finish my FC Sedan and it didn'tt need anywhere the amount of work I'm doing here so I'm determined that this will not be like that, I may not meet my deadline but I wont be far off

I trial fitted the booster to the firewall and am going to have to take another 5mm from the bottom of the old wiring haress hole at the top of the booster, I didn't take enough originally and the booster misses sitting flush but a hair at that point but it looks good and will clear the hinge area easily.


Used the hole saw and cut the corresponding hole through the pedal box, have to drill to 4 booster mounting holes but have to relieve the pedal box frame as the mounting holes are going to interfear with the sides, it's all trial and error with me I'm afraid.


Got a pair of ute springs about a year and a half ago so time to give them a going over and get them ready.


Blacky once I've got the booster sitting properly I will draw the mount plate up no use doing it while I'm still messing with it.
