Well I finally have a freshly painted car and have commenced what is sure to be a long and arduous task of reassembly. I have decided to work from the rear of the car forward as I am still waiting on a couple panels at the front.

Rear tail lights are in, rear bumper is on (hit my first issue here) and have just moved on to the rear quarter panel top moulding (think it may be called the crown?) Anyway I have purchased some moulding clips from Rares that say they are specifically for this moulding but I am not so convinced.

The square threaded clip, which is for the very end of the moulding closest to the indicator lens, doesn't fit but I was able to trim it up and I'm sure I can bodgey something up to fit on the inside of the rear quarter to secure it. The other clips I'm not so sure?

Does anybody if the these are the right clips? How do you fit them to the moulding? Do they just push on? I have tried a few different ways but as you could imagine I'm a bit gun shy with brand new paint.

Any help would be much appreciated

the one wth the thread slides into the stainless trim and you bolt it down (it may need to be trimmed to get it to fit in the channel), the others press on.

yes there is a technique to it so you dont damage the paint or stainless so best to get help

These are very similar to what was originally used in the standard and commercial front guard spears. They may be too big for this application but useful elsewhere.

Cheers guys, the "W" clips from Sam I have and used on the side moulding. The rear threaded clip I have trimmed up to fit the moulding and have used a small plate for inside the panel to hold the nut. Those other pesky little clips looks like they are going to be a bit more of a challenge.

Amazing looking car you've got. It is already a stunner and it's not finished! The paint work you have done is something to aim for and looks just brilliant. I'm wondering what type of paint you used and what colour is the yellow? One of the best restorations on this forum- congratulations.

Cheers Brett, it's an original colour "Satellite Yellow" with "Snowcrest White", the mix formula I got was for 2K but I wanted it in acrylic. I'm really happy with how it's come out, it's not perfect by any stretch, but happy none the less.

Yep definitely acrylic and yes even straight off the gun it was pretty smick. I had a guy paint it for me though as I really wanted it done properly. A shed load of man hours did go into sanding though. Primer, base coat, top coat then 400 grit W/D, 4 coats then 800 grit W/D, 4 coats then 1000 grit W/D, 2 coats then final 1200 grit W/D, I pretty much have no fingerprints

It's a credit to you and your gun peep. Something to strive for. It's just as well you're thousands of miles way otherwise there'd be drool marks on the paint

Gpi is right, the side clips push on. Fit one edge (top is easier) then roll the other edge on. Use a long run of the blue painters tape (one strip on the top, one on the bottom) but only just push the tape onto the paint, and only just enough to go under the mould. Once the mould is in place, it can be hard to get the tape out if the tape was really stuck on.

Cheers Harv, I'm going to have another crack at it this arvo after work. The blue painters tape is definitely going to be my best friend throughout this whole reassembly process I think

Hey mate I'm feeling your pain with putting things back on a freshly painted car I had a couple of very small mishaps myself and that tape will definately save you some grief

Boot seal fitted (hopefully the right way)
New stainless steel fuel tank fitted (double satin black powder coat)
Dynamat to rear seat complete and boot divider fitted
Scratch plates fitted (thanks Sam Crupi)
