That makes it awkward Stephen. First thing Sam (Belly and a builder) said when he visited was why didn't I use foam panels? Maybe an option for you.

Yeah I was looking at foam panels , my shed is 220m so pulling the sheets and doing it properly would be a prick of a job ……

Brett I was referring to a foam insulation. Comes in rolls. Is about 10mm thick. Kingspan and Fletchers have similar products. I like the Fletchers one better.

No wire needed. It’s easier to rip the roof off to install but can be fixed to the underside of the shed purlins with a little finesse. I have done this before and used a second lot of ceiling battens under to hold the insulation up.

Engine mounts on today. Overhanging as much as engineer would allow me. 430mm between mount bolt centres, square to spring tower and each other.
Turned top pivot bolts around as had been previously suggested to make alignment adjustments easier.
Gear box crossmember bolted on now as well.
Battery box to be cut off next.
Almost warm in the shed today.

Thanks Brett/Sam for shed insulation info. Lots of products out there. Am leaning towards a roll out foil backed blanket (with R value of at least 1.5) from inside shed and fix to purlins with slotted angle steel.

However will be a pain to shift stuff hanging up in shed and do the job. One day……

Checking out a clever fellow based out at Collector NSW who is modifying Barney's inlet manifold so the stombergs can sit flat. Photos of some stuff he has done that might work on an EK ute

Got my SU intake manifold straightened out to enable a level fit of the tripple sidedraft strombergs. It is going to take a fair bit of redesigning the firewall to get the end carb and air cleaner to fit. Rob's headers are a neat fit already.

Tomorrow will be the rebuild of 1st cross-member hump brace if I can get a go at it. Then once that is sorted, firewall mods.

So much to do, so little patience

I don't understand why it would be necessary to modify the manifold Brett. Will the carbs now be level with the head, which will generally be leaning back about 5 degrees?

Hi Clay, it's necessary because all but the original XU1 tripple carb manifolds have the carburetors sloping upwards. This is ok for SUs which have adjustable float chambers that can be levelled to compensate. The CD175s are not designed to have the float chambers tilted and so my manifold needed to be adjusted. Pic of a common manifold that works for SUs but not CD175s.
I would have happily used an original XU1 manifold, but didn't like the 1,000 buck price tag.
