Help boot hinge spring

Post by fb cruisin »

I have an FB sedan with a broken boot hinge spring, and I'm having alot of trouble trying to fit a new one, without losing a finger.
Does anyone have any tips or suggestions on fitting this?

cheers Rob

Hey Rob. Mine are stuffed too and I am yet to fix it. I found in the FB shop manual (section 1-25) there is a spec to make a tool to replace the springs. If anyone were to bite the bullet and get some of these made......
Cheers, Andrew.

Thanks Greg, What a great idea.
So all you do is drill out the original pin bolt in these and set the tension with an allen key.
I suppose it would make it easier to give springs that have lost a little tension a bit more of a wind up.

Guys I tried the link and it didn't work. Said the topic no longer exists. Would love to see this other idea.
Regarding the spring tensioning tool, I've decided maybe I should bite the bullet and have sent the drawing to a bloke who is going to make up maybe a few of them for us.
Cheers,
Andrew.

Boot Spring Posts

Post by ret »

Hi guys,

I have more of these available again. This is what they look like:

(note there's a star washer included not shown in that pic)

and here's one as fitted to a vehicle, prior to painting:

These fully adjustable items do not require the special tool shown previously, and won't cost you a couple of fingers trying to fit them!

Price is $35 for a pair, which includes pins, star washers, nuts and fitting instructions. Postage (within Australia) is $5.

Send me a PM if you'd like to order a set.

Thanks,

RET

finally fitted my adjustable boot spring pins. :D
even if I made the tool my springs needed a little more tension than the factory setting.

I found with my FB it was easier cut off the pressed pin with a 4 inch grinder and re drill.

thanks for the pins Richard

well worth the $$ to eliminate your nasco boot prop

Hi Rob / Ret.
Can you have a look at my post under sharing advice & experience please.
I had a go at fitting the bolts which went in fine, but can't seem to get the springs right. I've posted pics there of what I've done, can you tell me what's wrong?
Thanks,
Andrew.
