Singing Hydra

Post by EKjimmy »

My Hydra is making a fairly audible buzzing/humming sound when the car is idling in gear-normally only a short while after warming up, though it only happens sometimes..
should i be worried? and does anyone know what causes this and how to fix it, because i hate noises
Cheers, Jimmy

Hi EKJimmy,
I had the same problem with my old Hydra,
Turns out the buzzing is usually a sign of a clogged filter or that the filter has fallen off.

Basically your transmission needs a service.. (This is what fixed mine.)

Good Luck, Anthony.

yeah thats what i read in the shop manual :? is it an expensive repair to get done? no doubt persisting with it like this could cause further damage?

EKJimmy,
Service on mine cost me $160 from memory. But get some prices before you drop of your car, This way you'll get a feel if the mechanic knows what he's on about.

Sounds like a blocked or loose filter.
I would also flush the trans with clean fluid a few times to flush the converter as well after you service it.

Better still if you can find an AutoTrans Specialist that has a power flusher, he can do it for you. And your Trans fluid will be nice and red again with good smooth shifting from a clean valve body.
There's nothing as Sweet as a EK V8
