Windowless van or ute wanted (Yep, another one!)

Post by vmx-mxr »

First off thanks for a great site and forum pages!

This is pretty much a C & P from the FE FC club page just so you know.

I am hoping I might get lucky and as they say it never hurts to ask!

We are looking for a good ute or windowless van FE FC FB EK

Right now I'm setting myself up in a second job doing restoration vapour blasting and conventional blasting (note - not whole cars etc as they are already catered for) at great expense to the management (me)

The work I aim to do outside my regular employment as a firey is doing vapour / wet blasting (ie glass bead in water under pressure) on all sorts of components (primarily but not exclusively alloy) in a cabinet with approx 1m x 1m x .8 capacity and the reason I am after a windowless van or ute is to use it as a daily driver complete with 60's style sign-writing .

I also have a large dry blasting cabinet running bead, garnet and aluminium oxide grit and both run off a vane comp.

Twenty something years ago I had a fantastic black business sedan and I have always had a soft spot for FE and FC, although due to the fact my 19 year old has an EK I will also be looking at them, it just depends on what comes up first. That old FC only had one tiny 3/8" spot of rust and was dead stock and I enjoyed every day I owned her!

The car I am seeking now must be a very useable car from day one with minimal if zero rust (if such a car exists?) and at this stage I only want to do minimal changes to it but am open to ideas. Colour is unimportant, condition is, and the more original and unmolested the better.

The other reason I want a van or ute is because I race old school motocross and figure what better way to cart old bikes around eh?

Obviously I am prepared to pay a reasonable amount for a decent car - I try to be a realist, but am definitely NOT after a rust bucket. I'm in Sydney but can travel for the right vehicle, within reason.

Any help, offers or leads would be very much appreciated, and I have already begun buying some goodies to start things off.

Cheers and thanks in advance

G'day NoMad!

Thank you for the kind words.

We went to the All Holden Day at Clarendon and met heaps of nice people there - a funny thing about when you get a whole lot of people together who are passionate about their cars - they are nearly always friendly and helpful!

I am hoping the blasting business will be useful to car restorers and bike restorers alike so I figure what better vehicle to drive around in with the signage than a Holden, lol!

In my former life I was a toolmaker and am still handy on machines, so I take the care that trade taught me to doing virtually everything as I know no-one wants to risk stuffing up a hard to get part in the hands of a dope who soesn't care !!!

I've got a link here for James car which has been a member of the club before as per the photo taken five years ago. http://www.pearlcraft.com.au/wheel%20ga ... el_003.jpg Since that pic was taken a small amount of rust had developed by the time we got the car mainly in the right dogleg so I am hoping we can get all the panel sections to fix it.

He is waiting for his registration to be accepted and then will add his opinions on EK's through the eyes of a 19 year old - he's a good young bloke!

As to the vans or utes I am really hoping for a good honest car that we can work on. I know they are out there but getting people to part with them might be tricky. It's amazing the stories I have heard of guys having multiples of vans and utes - it amazes me - you can only drive one at a time and clubs are about members getting involved. No cars equals no members, surely ???

Anyway - The search has begun !!!

Cheers

Hi Sam

Thanks mate but I'm right now I have my EK - my priorities are TRYING to get enough shit out of the workshop so she can get in there so Jimmy and I can get cracking on some work.

Hopefully the van is a good one and finds a new home and I appreciate you thinking of me.

If you like I can send you the contact details for that FB ute in WA - he sent me some pics and it looks like a pretty good car with not much to worry about (but that would be for you to check out of course)

I've saved the pics he sent me if you want them once I get time to do the photobucket thing I'll post some here ???????
