question on EK body parts

Post by POPS »

hey fellas I have a question regarding the EK roller that I picked up last week. Im looking at taking the front fender and door off to install them onto my EK , and I noticed that the grill or vent system which is part of the main body above the bonnet and below the windscreen is very different in design from the roller which I'm assuming is an earlier model Special compared to my driver which is a 62 Special. I have done some rough measurements and all appears to measure the same as far as the panels are concerned.
Am I going to have problems changing panels and components over or will everything changeover ok. Also just on my brief description does anyone know what year the roller is, I'm guessing 1961. It has the Special badge on the glove box. :? :? :?

No sounds like you have bought an EK parts car with an FB plenum fitted :)

Will not pose any problems

Plenum is the bit below the windscreen and above the bonnet which is different between the two models. Just my word for it :)

FB has three vertical stainless bits, EK is much flatter in design and doesn't have any bolt on stainless bits 8)

hi pops as far as im aware 61 and 62 'plenums are the same. More likely youve got a fb body like aust mod says. Not to worry hang ing panels should be compatible though. Front indicator housings are different but so unsure there. Btw what are you doing with drivers side fender and door? Sorry about typing on my phone

IF what you have is an FB parts car the panel will go on, but behind the grill and indicator houseing is a bit different you should notice the differance when they are vissable, you can just cut it off or muck around and remove them and swap them over i have EK front panels that i'm putting on the car i'm doing with an FB front and i'm just cutting them off
also holes for badges and chrome strips are a bit different

thanks for the info fellas. I have to double check but I thought I saw the rollers body compliance plate start with EK, is that normal considering you guys are saying its a bitsa car? I might be wrong I do need to confirm this.
Anyway Jake08 if you are going to Armadale show on Sunday let me know coz my work unit is just around the corner and thats where the cars are, so if you want to have a look at the parts you are most welcome to.

Sounds like I'm taking the blue bomber out on Sunday!
She's not pretty but she's running. Stopping seems to be the main issue now.
Any way my EK is a '61 so we can compare them if you like, but I am positive it's the same as the '62 car I had prior.
Will try to get down there for 12pm- have put off the face to faces for too long long now.
Andrew I will bring that pair of flappers if you still want them?
Just gotta organise a babysitter as I don't have a back seat to hang kiddy seats off!
