well i finally started looking at the ute again the other day ... then it got F@#%#N hot .... anyways ....
i am planning to weld up the spare wheel door seeing how its useless to me (commodore wheels don't fit in it) so i started looking at how to do it ....
i'm interested to hear anyones thoughts who has already done this .... im not sure weather to leave the door as it is and weld it in or go for a wagon rear bumper and have the number plate on it and smooth the panel .....
i think im pretty sure i want wagon bumper ..... just need to see a few and work out whats gonna be the neatest option!

If your spare wheel door is in good condition remove it and make a new skin to be welded in its place, those doors are getting very hard to find, I'm sure someone on here would be glade to take it off your hands , Trev .

Hey Sammy, I have done this and have posted up some shots of it. I removed the door, well Louie did and welded a plate over it, now I am using a fc/fe bumper and I hope to have a set of wagon over riders soon as well as a fc number plater surround.Sammy wrote:well i finally started looking at the ute again the other day ... then it got F@#%#N hot .... anyways ....

Re: Project Modern FB
Well i know its been far too long between drinks, but i've finally done something to this!!
I had to get my FB Ute out of the shed the other day to get at the camping gear, so i thought while i was at it i would put some mufflers on it.
so currently this thing has a VR V6 with custom made extractors into 2.25 inch pipes then into two stock v6 cats and then thats pretty much as far as i'd gotten with it.
so a while back my mate put a new exhaust on a car for a customer and he was just going to throw the old exhaust out, so i loaded it into the ute and brought it home
so this is basically a stock system off a VT monaro and as it happens the flanges are the same as on my cats and the pipes are 2.25 inch into the mufflers and 2 inch out so that was perfectly what i wanted!!
it was pretty much a matter of cutting the bends out of the pipes and a few small changes and on they went!
one day i will get some nice 45 degree bends to point the pipes down at the ground but i need to check with mr engineer to make sure i can do what i want before i get too carried away.
I also need to slightly modfiy the left one as its in the wrong spot, but it was the best i could do with the pipe i had ....
either way she sounds heaps nicer now and not as loud and annoying as it was before! I just need to get some bits and pieces to mount the rear supports for it!
Oh and i reckon its quieter than the Torana is and it passed the emissions noise test so this one should too!!
I have a video of it too http://www.oldholdens.com/images/cars/f ... 010-12-11/ low and high quality options there.

Re: Project Modern FB
I was reminiscing on an old thread today (bored at work) and Sammy's name popped up, so I searched for this thread and just had a good read.
Has anyone heard from him, or know if anything has been done lately to the ute? I remember watching this thread from the start, hopefully all is well with Sammy and he has been to busy to post updates as he's been working on the ute lol. It's a shame when people dissapear and your left wondering what ever happened to them or their car (Row1) comes to mind. He was building a pink and white fb sedan that he bought as a unfinished project, from memory he was trying to sell it and wanted big $$$ for it, I have had a few sleeps since then though

Re: Project Modern FB
Well i have good and bad news
the good news is yes i am still alive and yes the FB Ute is still in the family.
Bad news is i have sold it back to my dad who funnily enough is who i bought the shell off in the first place - pretty much been way to busy and other priorities in life these days i rarely get on the forum and have no time for the FB Ute, i wasn't planning to sell it cause i didn't want to see it go, but when dad started talking about getting a project now all the kids have left home i thought i could handle seeing it go to him cause i know he will do a good job of it and i'll get to see all my work finished and get to enjoy it still.
