EK Auto Column to Trimatic?

Post by Devilrod »

After some technical advice and help, we are currently fixing up an EK Sedan. We have a disc f/end a red motor and want to put a trimatic in it.
I want to know if this can be hooked up to an ek auto column and if so does anyone have one for sale?

Hi Devilrod.

Yes, you can make an EK column work.

The bits you need are the inhibitor switch & shift gate off an HD/HR Powerglide. The inhibitor switch is so you can start it in park & neutral & have reverse lights on in reverse. The shift gate bolts to the column tube, just above the steering box & gives you the position for the P/R/N/D/L gears in the correct order, which is totally different to the EK Hydra-Matic.

The linkage to the box will need to be tailor made out of a combination of EK & Trimatic bits. Use HQ-HZ stuff, they're plentiful.
