Just goes to show Steve........ bad is not all bad.....there has been good come from it, awesome pics.....how can one man have sooooo much talent! (and so many nice cars!)
I have put steel gears in every car I have owned after the experince of doing two timing gears in 6 months in my first car then trusting to luck on my second and having it let go on the way to Canberra in 1995 Ah memories.
yes they are a little whiney and I only change the cam gear not the crank gear. but I never have had a problem with them.
and yes you can change them without taking the camgear out of the car!
If I could think of something witty I would put it here
I'm trying to make the same decision for myself right now - but with all the bad news about Fibre gears cropping up, I'm now leaning towards a Steel gear.
Any ideas best place to get them (Steel) in Sydney? ...
SunnyTim wrote:Steve. I did 3 gears in 1 year in 95, and have been running steel in all of my cars ever since. No timing gears in that time.......
They only seem to be noisy if you change the crankshaft gear with the one that comes with the set
I've have done 40,000 miles with just the top gear fitted, hasn't broken yet and is quiet.
On the FB, both gears were changed in the steel set by a mechanic. The engine sounds very noisy, almost like the noise is coming from the middle of the engine?
Bearing? or Timing gear? I haven't heard the engine myself as it is still down south.
My car did a timing gear at the week-end coming back from ballarat club run. Definetley wont use a fibre gear, ive ordered a steel one from reidy.
Does anyone know what type of puller i can use and where can i purchase one, the one i have is a cheapy from super cheap and wont work on the crank gear.
Hi Stewart, The Twilight is back on the road. It was the Seagull with the noise after the timing gear was replaced. Not sure what the noise is, so we are going to pull the engine out and take a quick look. While we have the engine apart, we will ad new rings and bearings. It's all part of the fun
