Injected 5ltr
Injected 5ltr
So whilst I am seriously considering this road and have found a door car which more or less has a full house race motor in it. I am curious that if I update the motor to an injected one (in particular out of a VS) do I have to carry all of the pollution gear for EPA testing? Or does engineering just check out the install and thats it?
I think it has to comply with the same emissions standard as the donor vehicle - i.e. your car will need to be the same as a VS.
The trick with fitting injected Holden motors is to start with an early block and fit the later model top end.

I started with nothing and still have most of it left.

i am in the process of fitting a VS Ecotec V6 into my Torana so i might be able to shed some light from what my engineer has advised me to do.
so firstly, had to fit the standard air box - not a real challenge this area.
fuel system has to be fully sealed and venting has to go to a charcoal canister, really no problems here performance wise or anything but a bit of a pain to get it all done ... mainly due to all the extra piping needed ....
basically ran all my tank vents to a hose up in the top of of the filler neck, use a commodore filler neck with a rubber hose to join the old tank to the new neck .... was pretty straight forward, then i needed to connect the big vent from that up to the charcoal canister, simply a hose run up to the engine bay and charcoal canister connects to a vaccum port on the engine and also a fitting in the air box for its 'filtered inlet'
i've also had to fit a catalytic converter, no big deal here just costs a bit
other than that i've just had to keep the exhaust note below 97dba
i already have VS brakes and 2 speed wipers/heater/demister so thats not a problem but probably would be for you if you don't have it already.
thats about as far as i've gotten so i'm not sure on the rest, i guess i'll know once i put it to him for approval!

well if its a full house race motor i doubt its ever going to satisfy the emisions people ....
another option would be to put a stock motor in, get it all engineered then swap motors ... .once its regoed its just an engine swap requiring change of engine numbers ..... however if you get the wrong inspector for that you might be screwed ....
the ute is still in the shed i drive the torana everyday so i wanted something more economical than a 202 .... the ecotec has achieved this, once i finish of the last things i need for engineering i will be able to get back into the ute!

I'm sure they don't go doing full emissions tests in a case where you were to put a pollution motor into a pre pollution car. They may make sure that all the emissions gear is on there like catalytic converters and all that stuff, but unless the engine sounds and idles like a top fueller, I doubt they'll bother.
The other option is to put it on LPG.
