Intro Post

Post by cameradoctor »

Hi all,

Been a little remiss until now .... my excuse is that the EK is stuffed in the rear of the Garage, and I could not find these pics!!

I am from the middle of the South Island, New Zealand.

This is my second EK, I had a Wagon in 1985 - should never had sold it!!

This is a 1961 Hydromatic. Currently looking a lot worse than these pics - rust repairs on the go - slowly - moved to new house so house projects seem to get preference ( especially from 'her indoors' )

Would be nice to get the EK rolling for the summer cruising!

Looking at coming over to Brissy next April - are there any EK events near that date I should work around?

Cheers

Greg

Welcome Greg, where abouts on the South Island are you from, its not that small! My honeymoon was spent doing a 13 day drive around the south Island 4 years ago. Absolutely awesome!! Good fun driving roads too I might add, poor rental car..

Good luck getting back into the project. Post up some more recent pics so we can see your handiwork.

I am from Timaru - Half way between Christchurch and Dunedin, on the Coast.

Yep, lots of great driving roads here - my Daily is a Peugeot 206 GTi, lots of fun on the twisties!

I think we actually went throught there too heading back to Christchurch!
In all our travels we only saw one FB, but it was mint and looked to be owned by an old couple. Hope to get back there one day... The roads are so much fun, but the single lane bridges were a bit of a worry, especially when combined with a train line

Plans at this stage is to get the rust out and get it road-worthy!

Would love to do full bare metal respray, but funds and time do not permit!

I think if it is useable, it is more likely to get the attention it deserves, and maybe the respray will come in distant future! Seen many stripdowns that just languish in the back of the garage for years!

Planning to keep as original as possible - seems to be a lot that have been 'hot-rodded' which I do not mind - in fact the shape works well, but I think I want to keep mine original.

Yes Devilrod you would have gone through Timaru & my home town of Ashburton, it's even more fun in winter when you hit patches of 'black ice' on the roads
The only reason for time is so everything dosen't happen at once.
If Macca's home delivered there'd be one less drunk on the road.

As requested, here are some pics taken last night - excuse the messy garage! - I did warn it was stuck down the back of the garage!

Image

And here is one of the lower guard repair - both sides need to be done, this one is done, the other is cut out ready to weld

Image

And this shot shows repair to the lower rear - could not get closer due to messy garage!! If you look closely you can see the repair panel is burnt red. Both sides have been done. Can also see holes in side panel where the chrome strip clips were, have small made repair bits to weld in there too.

Need to get my outdoor projects finished, get the EK starting better and get back onto her!

Reading these threads does help with enthusiasm though, keep up your posts guys! 8)
