Etcher, Primer, Paint, Thinners, Paper
Etcher, Primer, Paint, Thinners, Paper
Well I have rubbed a panel back to bare metal, and have been given from an uncle a limited supply of sandpaper (1000-80). As well as some prepsol, and thinners.
I need to get etcher, primer, paint and more sand paper.........
Question is where do I get it from??
Panel shop? Paint Supplier?
Any one in Sydney got a contact??
Thanks
Dan

supercheap paint will work ok, but its not good value, i use very cheap paint, its concept brand, it seems to do the job and i doubt anyone will really notice the difference, the best acrylic i used was dulon, i get my paint from VG in giraween, i also use some products from autolac, the brand from there i use is debeer, its not to deer, its the mother company of house of kolor, they have a few shops around sydney but they are shut on saturdays, if you know what you want you can get a rep to drop it of at your work, well thats what i do.
something else to consider though is ppg, they are pretty much the leading brand, lots of people are familiar with the range of products and you buy it from holden dealers, look next time you see a holden dealer, you will probably see a ppg sign somewere near spare parts.
look up suppliers in the phone book, places like autobahn sell basic paints for big prices, the paints they sell should be around $50-60 for 4 litres but they sell it much dearer.
one thing to consider is before you choose a brand is how easy is it to get some on a saturday morning when you realise you are a litre short of something, you dont want a brand were you have to take half a day of work to get a little bit more primer.
all paints from auto paint suppliers will do the job ok, otherwise they wouldnt sell any. they all pretty much look the same after buffing but the pigment in some lasts longer and some pray on better.

ive used the supercheap stuff and it works but its overpriced for what it is, i think lots of people must just buy the stuff not thinking to look around for a proper paint supplier, in a paint shop you will either get everything cheaper or better products for the same money or premium stuff for a bit more as well as a better range, some real cheap sandpapers and masking tapes too in crappy shops are better left alone, i use a fairly cheap tape called hi stik from vg, it works good for the money, no need to buy mega expensive 3m tape but dont try the shit from go lo, the pressure from the gun will blow it off, i found out the hard way.
my paint shop cant give much advice unless they have a painter in the shop but they know the products better than a auto parts shop.
also do some research on the net on paint and body work, i found alot of good products just by reading what others were happy with.

VG Auto paint in Giraween is a paint supplier I can recommend, there been in the game for years and have been at the same place for proberly 25 years or more, I'm pretty sure they still hold FREE paint and panel courses on Saturday mornings, get in touch with them as there super helpful.
I have never dealt with the guys in Condell Park, but if Stuwart has recommended those guys, then they must be alright aswell.
Regards John
