Hi J,

you wouldn't believe it... I bought some DVD maker thingy-me-bob on friday

It was the hardest thing to set and up and use...

I did get it to work eventually but not that happy with the results which I will try and post up tomorrow.

I have a fair bt on DVD so I just might take you up on your offer...or maybe pick your bains for help...thanks heaps.

Craig - too true. With Yamba and other stuff happening I havnt actually touched the EK for over a month now...but about to get back into it.

i can get a dvd and convert it for internet, ipod or anything..
or i can get footage already on the computer, edit it, and put it on a dvd.

can do music in the background, titles and proper dvd menu's too

just magic............ finally got to give your thread a good read - too cold and no "Yamba" to prepare for........

I'm sure you are "living" the car as you pull it down - there's not much left of mine to "discover" anything............ the front headlining is going to be the last "frintier........ I'll be a bit melancholic once I've gone in there - nothing of the "old chap" left to discover.........

Now to your request...... DVD, MPEG and burning......

yes - been up to my balding cranium over the past two weeks in this program I use to edit and assemble footage....... will pm you - check your inbox......

With every vehicle - there is a life history, we are the fortunate ones....... there is very little of mine I cannot account for, but have managed to join most of the gaps whilst the old chap had it for 11 years - he kept pretty good records, just not a lot of detail........

As for the mentioned safety gear - on every one of our work timesheets, at the start of the page, this quote.......

"the greatest safety device known - is a careful man"........

Your grand-children are going to weep over this thread........ and I expect you may also find a damp eye or two once the dream is realised.......

Hey Stewart,

I must admit I haven't had a good read of your post until now. Finding and doing what your doing is fantastic. Actually finding the car and being able to buy it back, WOW, money would be no object.

Anything is repairable, in other cases some may say its too far gone, but in your car there would be no such phrase.

Looking forward to your rebuilding of this sentimental beauty.

Austmod - brilliant. I saved the DVD onto the hardrive (.vob file) then converted it to mpeg4 and have pasted the link back on page 2. I compressed it a bit and it shows...so might try again. Thanks very much for that. I'll be going back for a refund for my thingy-me-bob tomorrow...

Thanks Mal. I have to pinch myself every now and then to remind myself how lucky I was to get it back. Everything is repairable...I just can't be in a hurry with this one...and boy do I wish I had the skills/knowledge of panel beating, spray painting, mechanical etc you guys have on here...

with envy...

Rosco...there was a few discoveries along the way which I am enjoying in the retelling. Every car has a story to tell which adds to its soul. My FB and EK have both seen more of life than me...I often think about what broadcasts have come out of the the old Kreisler radio in my FB... Got your PM on DVD stuff etc...many thanks. Will be in touch.

J..thanks again for your offers. Its hard to keep up with technology. I tend to ignore it until I need to use it. I still like to go out to the garage and put some vinyl on the turntable...

So check out the EK arriving home link on page 2...the quality is a bit rough but you get the idea...

OK I got ahead of myself a bit and have to back track to the 11 December 2004 when Andrew Hunter and Craig Wilson came over and we fired up Old Timer.

What you see in the video has been cut down from about 20 minutes of actual recording. My son Thomas then aged 6 is 'driving' the EK out of the garage, his sister Emma then aged 3 also sitting in the front and yours truly pushing. Because Tom couldn't remember his right and left I had to yell out to him to turn towards the house and turn towards Lens house who lives next door.

The engine turned over by hand so that was a good sign. We checked the oil and added a bit of oil down each spark plug chamber. We were also armed with a can of 'start ya bastard' and had the fire extinguisher close by...

Then we added the battery from the FB and added fuel...nothing.

Then we checked the points and plugs...we had spark...but wouldnt turn over.

Then we checked the killswitch was off...

...still nothing...

Then we took the top of the carby off and added fuel...put carby top back on and voila...!

You'll have to excuse my over enthusiastic woohooing and yahooing when it fires up

Watch for the puff of smoke just after it starts... If we had a clutch and brakes I probably would have gone for a drive...

Not bad for an engine that hadn't been started since around 1990. A testament to the never say die attitude of a grey motor.

Well the strip down continues...it felt like I was going backwards at this stage but it had to be done...

compost anyone...?

getting the insulation off the roof was the worst job...

rear end out...

front fire wall clean...

nice little suprise in the rear drivers side floor...

interior all out...

thats it...one EK wagon shell...note the wooden trolley...it didnt last long...

but got me out of trouble for the time being.
