John fitted a 40/80 cam shaft to get the gasses flowing from the 13b turbo, that enables the engine to come onto boost much faster.....Blah,Blah Blah.. Thats what the D'Heads wrote..................and went on.
Boy did I get some calls from a lot of Rotory gurus, wondering how the hell I could possibly do that.
I spose that was a good turning point for me. To stop advertising and Not buy them Mags no more.
John
They made you sound like an engineering genuis a cam in a rotary!!! Wow
Only feature I've had done was on an FC and I got to proof read it prior to print. Kind of avoided silly things like what happened with you John. You should have written to them to correct it, most proffesional magazines will right their wrongs.
Speed and Style........... One day I'll get the speed bit.
John is right, I should have dropped Mal a line. I have been in contact about about other stuff though.
Generally with blogs (certainly with mine), the idea is to trawl through the morass of the interweb, select the gems and put them in one place, with links back to the original site. If you don't credit the original source, that is when the real problems start
i think most people would be rapt to have a pic, any pic of there car in or associated with a magazine, like DR said if you don't want people to see it don't put it on the internest
john sounds like you had the car featured in backyard/lowbudget goofball mag you mentioned the word rotary so it must've been
as for me it happens so often it's become a little blarzay
I guess some may take offence, but it dosen't bother me. As Griff said, he had been in contact with me about the car prior to this photo being shown. Iam also aware that posting photo's and info on this or any other site that it may be used anywhere.
At my age if I can't get the full 15, I'll settle for 5 minutes of fame.
Spoke to the auto elect. guy and he has assurred me that if all the earths are as they should be, then there's something in the box that they have missed.
When I bought the box I found that it had no filter in it (glad I didn't just fill it up an expect it to go) When the gearbox guys pulled it apart they found that the suspect solonoid was loose in the box (that would have told me that someone has fcuked around with it) so they told me they put a new O ring in it and tightened it up and it also needed a new converter and "we'll just check out the rest of the box"
Do you ever get the feeling you're surrounded by fcukwits that just want to rip you off.

all the time
seriously thats a load of crap, how can someone charge $1250 when theres still a problem with it ... i'd be asking for a refund or atleast get it fixed for free ..... if not dept of fair trading is your friend
Well, wasn't today fun
2 Hour drive over and 2 hour drive home in the peeing down rain to get the gearbox fixed. To look at the car now it looks like shit.
Oh and yeh, I still only have 3 gears even after 2 new solonoids and a new seal. So its back over again on monday for another try. Maybe third time lucky.
Yeh and I got to find out that my windscreen leaks like a sive, the wiper motor keeps causing fuses to blow and 1 wiper arm won't stay on properly. So all up 4 hours of driving in the rain with no wipers and only 3 gears.
sorry to hear all the hassles you're going through. I can't say I know how you feel because I'm only at the beginning of my rebuild. All I can say is you've come this far...hang in there and perservere...it will be worth it in the end.
We're all hanging out to the see the EK at Yamba and even more importantly meet Malcolm...the bloke whose been working his guts out to get the EK where it is today...
They must of leaked from new Malcolm, I have packed the inner front door seal out about 10mm and still got a dribble, but still can't wait for the weekends to get out of the modern shitbox and drive the FB
Bit like old timber houses, this weekend i have to set all door and window gaps to winter mode
Hi Malcolm,
I don't know how to ease your grief............. if I did, I would - you know that.
I have learned to draw on positives when gravity gets a hold of your emotion............
You have a wonderful looking car - you know that. You have a package that is the envy of almost all of us - these issues are the difference between yourself and and those who would have given up when yhou were confronted many, many months ago with problems no one had answers for - and you came through with credit.
That third gear issue you have - is being watched by many - I can assure you of this - they will want you to "scout" this problem out for all who follow your build - and they will.
You windscreen - it has been my experience that my old bus stays dry for years, then for some reason, unknown to me, a teardrop will appear for a few days of heavy rain - then stop for another five years - I cannot find where it is coming from - I am yet to "pull" the front screen - I feel people understand that the old thing will be off the road again for another few months when I set about the little "chores" I have planned when this happens.
I bet you are very much relieved that you took the correct path in coating the interior prior to fitting the trim - there isn't any chance that any water finding it's way in is going to hurt your body - but, yes - it is damned frustrating when you believe you have done a 110% job only to find it is going to have its way with you.................
You are very much unlikely to suffer weather on a regular basis to that which I believe southern Qld is getting at present..................
As for your auto, as long as there are still options, there are possible fixes.
I have an engine "rattle" which many, many people have tried to help me with - as yet, everything I've done over four years has failed to find it - we have stripped every conceivable piece out of the engine and checked it all - renewed the head, lifters, cam ground, big and mains checked new timing gears. new clutch/pressure plate/throwout bearing, new exhaust, new oil pump, water pump, pistons checked for crack, crankcase checked, oil pickup and sump checked for clearance sump baffle a very scrupulous re-assembly taking weeks - first start up under load - same old rattle - still looking - it won't beat me but is definitely starting to annoy me...........
I do not know anything of auto's - nor EMS - I'm a bit of a dinosaur, I'm afraid - like to know how things work (more importantly why they don't)
As mentioned, you have a great vehicle - and it has been all your work - youmust be so proud - I modified mine in 1982/83 and have been chasing loose ends ever since - it is getting better, but every now and then something new comes up ans tests my memory.
One great enjoyment I get from the events I enter, is to look at what others have done - I have made further modifications to mine after almost every nats I have been to - this one will be no different - I'm sure........
Very much looking forward to finally joining up with you Malcolm - this will be one nationals you won't forget.....................the first one is just so over awing...............
