Torana front end

Thinking about fitting a Torana front end to my EK... looking at the above drawings of the EK and Torana sub frames it would appear the Torana has some degree of 'built in' caster ?

Thanks for the link Keith......I read that thread sometime ago, from memory there isn't any info regarding the original Torana FE mounting angle .

Yes indeed there is angle on the Torana front body whilst the FB EK subframe has zero angle.

I have installed a Torana front end in my EK and you have to section it to obtain the correct caster angle.

I put one in my fj holden and used the standard rubbers for the fj the two back rubbers are thicker than the front ones which angles the front end down at the back. cheers Gary.

I laid my Torana front end flat on the ground and then cut out the area where the subframe of the EK will sit. I used 90 degree 6mm plate to fill the hole made and then used the top rubber cover caps as locators on the sub frame for the rubbers to sit on/in. I measured the wheel base and thats where the final holes were drilled in the plates for chassis to crossmember mounting.

I do not remember exactly but i think the Torana chassis has a 7 degree rake, you could measure that whith the subframe on the ground, it is irrelevent however because the EK is at 0 degrees. Basically you scollop the front end to suit 0 degrees when it is flat on the ground.

Having set it thus Greg, you are able to achieve +4 caster? Sure, that is the main consideration, rake wise.

Hi Clay,
I have UC top arms so caster is no issue. The Torana sub frame mounting points are tilted back, I don’t remember but am going to say laid back 7 degrees.
I will measure it all when I change to adjustable arms in the next few months.

Sorry for the late reply, I didn't see your post.....I didn't use the Torana front end, I had all the parts for sale in the classified section of this forum.
At the time I was going to use a UC / Sunbird front end and set it up as per an A9X.

Did you use UC steering arms or Harrop A9X arms?

I used Harrop steering arms.
