Today I spoke to Aaron at extensive wheel services here in Adelaide at Mile End about renovating my 14” mkI Tasmans. Not very keen on the idea he was. He sees a a problem in getting rims chromed for a start. Then there is the possibility of centres being unserviceable once removed from the original rims. Then he estimated $900 per rim.

yeah i've looked into getting wheels made (HK slotted centres) chromed then fitted to chrome bands which really is something that should be quite simple first couldn't find anybody remotely interested in doing it the one place i spoke to reluctantly quoted me $1500 per wheel with me supplying the HK centers

nobody did, as i said they reluctantly gave me that price but atleast they gave me a price and not a flat no not interested like the rest

That’s not very encouraging for my Tasmans. I can probably work with the existing 6” rims neg 3mm offset. 225s should work on the LC width diff, with 175s on the front to avoid guard rubbing.

I see BCI sell chrome 14x7” in +12 o/s. I could buy a pair of these and cut the centres out then weld in my Tasmans. They are $238 each. Aaron said they need to be zinc based plate, not copper, which they should be, having been welded already. I’d probably $*#@ the chrome anyway. Expensive gamble.

BCI also sell chrome bands in 15x6 and 7” but not 14”.

I don't know if this helps but I used Tasman centres in the front wheels of my HAMBster. After grinding the original rim away from the 'spokes' leaving the metal bit poking out I then used a standard HR ring. The Tasman centre is a snug fit and when I took them to a local bloke to fit them he told me to place them on the floor and knock them into place with a BFH. I fitted them to a stub axle in the vice and used a screwdriver as a dial indicator to true them up. Welded in with a MIG. They balanced up with no dramas and have made 860 passes down the 'strip without issues. You might be able to do similar with a wider ring.
