It's home now after 41 years. Sadly it's been let go over that time. I'm happy I have it but bloody annoyed too. Same air filter on it, I doubt it's even had an oil change. Radiator is blocked solid and so on.

Sweet as a sugar sandwich - are the rumours true ? You are going to convert it to electric ?????? Looks too nice to do that .......

Well looks are deceiving. I'm somewhat disappointed, but not suprised. Sheer neglect is all I can see, plus a lot of rust.
Hasn't had a air filter change for 40 years. Oil filter is rusted internally, fuel system is badly varnished, and so on.

Looks as if it has been sitting for many years.
I have done the same thing with a Fraud from my late father recently, 20 years of sitting, new brakes lines and hoses, new master, reco booster and wheel cylinders, water pump and flush, rebuilt carby, new fuel lines and a tank.
So far about $1500 in bits and lots of hours work just so i can move the damn thing.
Greg

Great day today. Closed the circle on the car after picking up all the parts and documents. I'm so glad all the rego history has been kept.
I have lots to sort through though. Awesome find though, 1 x Army spec gearbox! There's so much to mention but I'll stop here.

OK - I gotta ask, what is an Army gearbox? Never heard of one ?? I assume if it was an Italian army gearbox it would have 3 reverse gears and one forward???

My guess, FWIW, is that it is an early box that got the double-row bearing upgrade.Blacky wrote: Mon Jan 12, 2026 12:45 am OK - I gotta ask, what is an Army gearbox? Never heard of one ?? I assume if it was an Italian army gearbox it would have 3 reverse gears and one forward???![]()

FX-FJ gearboxes have the extra ribs on the bellhousing. The one in the photo is a late FX/early FJ gearbox: 14th day of can't make out the month 1953, with an alloy rear extension housing, which is consistent with a 1953 build.

Glad you asked the question……… I didn’t want to look like an uneducated old Holden owner (again)!
