I’ve considered putting one of these behind a 202 for the highway legs and snappy take off. That is a bugger mate.

Hi Neil,

Being a turbo 700 it can slip with the wrong cable adjustment, If so check the line pressure cable (not a kick down Cable).

Have a look on you tube re adjustment, they have to be spot on with the throttle arm length and pull to avoid wierd pressures that can cause slipping.

Just a thought.

Box is 4L60 Harv (V6 TH700) cable kick down, I have set up a couple of these kick down cables and it is not that hard but something funny is going on, I had set it up the same way but went and reset it yesterday then drove it, slipping  stopped a couple of times and made minor adjustments and it does alter the shift.
Remembered that we had damaged the outer cable cover on the cable when we almost dropped the box off the jack once so before I pull the trigger on the new box and converter I’m going to change the cable as see what happens

Hi Neil,

There not kick down cables, they are line pressure cables, as you accelerate they control the amount of pressure on the clutches eg harder you accelerate the more pressure goes to the clutches.
They must have perfect adjustment otherwise you can burn the clutches and introduce slippage.

Its possible the old box is already fried by the sound of your description, but i hope not, fingers crossed.

I think you are bright Greg, I have gone ahead with getting a gearbox overhauled and upgraded and the torque converter people have said that they can open up and clean up my converter so this is the way ahead

Gearbox drama update
I think I said before that when we changed the gearbox we almost dropped it off the jack a couple of times, one time the TV cable got caught and the outer got pulled out of the bottom mount
Well I had another cable and after driving it the Ute a couple of times before changing the cable it seemed that the box wanted to change properly but I just couldn't get the gear change setting right.
I'm "working from home today"  so decided "what did I have to loose" I will change the cable and see what happens.
Now I have to tell you there ain't a lot of room for a TH700 even in the bigger tunnel so I had to be a bit of a contortionist but got the old cable out and new (second hand) cable in, topped the box up, gave it a drive and looks like the gearbox is ok, changed gears really well    put Frank back in the shed and put him to bed
While I was playing with the good cable out of the car I realised that the adjustment actually pulls on the outer so with the damaged one in the car there was just no way it would adjust correctly.

Anyway it appears at the moment to be a good outcome, damaged cable below.

You know that feeling when you think you have solved a problem
Went in to my workshop at home Saturday morning, after Franks minor surgery on Friday, to find him bleeding all over the floor
Seriously though found out the seal that seals the TV cable going into gearbox was stuffed and leaking  lucky for me I’m a bit of a hoarder, I have another engine spare engine and gearbox stored at my company workshop, so trip up to work and back Sunday morning, TV cable out once again, second hand seal in and I backed it up with a thin O ring
Looks like it is not leaking, then again haven’t gone into workshop yet this morning
