Probably should have rejected it via PayPal, though it's now installed (soldered into the dizzy).

Pulled out three degrees of timing: 13º initial, 35º all-in. Now it's stopped pinging. It mebbe could take a degree or so more, but with the way I lean on this thing a little safety margin is not a bad idea.

Why the new dizzy would make the engine tolerate three degrees less is beyond me. Mebbe harmonic balancer ring slip over time, and a coincidence with the new dizzy, but unlikely. There are days when I feel like Oddball from Kelly's Heroes:

Oddball: Hi, man.
Big Joe: What are you doing?
Oddball: I'm drinking wine and eating cheese, and catching some rays, you know.
Big Joe: What's happening?
Oddball: Well, the tank's broke and they're trying to fix it.
Big Joe: Well, then, why the hell aren't you up there helping them?
Oddball: [chuckles] I only ride 'em, I don't know what makes 'em work.

The quality of fuel is pretty variable in my observation. I just put a tank of 95 in the ute now it is running better. Slight pinging evident. Nothing like the issues I was having before I replaced the module, which was louder and lower frequency between pings. Sedan is doing the same after filling it with 91.

Hi Harv
Can you tell me the seat belt reels that you used to mount in the back on top of the wheel arch please.
• Inertia lap/sash belt with 600mm adjustable buckles (HEMCO part number 1790001) Is this the front
• XL 0/0º mount inertia lap/sash belts with 600mm adjustable buckles (HEMCO part number 1600051XLSP) and is this the back
• 90º L-bracket mounts (HEMCO part number 1765174) and where are the 90deg bracket used

Rears are 1600051XLSPs, mounted straight through the rear wheel arches.

Fronts are 1790001s. The bolt orientation would normally put the bolt horizontal, through the B pillar at ankle height. I used the 1765174 90º L-bracket mounts to put the bolts vertically down through the floor pan. It was a lot easier to use the off-the-shelf reinforcing plates under the floor pan rather than something bespoke in the B-pillar.

No idea who the old bogan in the black shirt with the vast tribe of children is

Weather was touch and go all day. An hour or two of clear, then 15 minutes of drizzle and 40 minutes of track drying. Managed to get three runs in, called it a day around 5pm sunburnt, tired but happy. Good racing, though a couple of heart-stoppers. Valiant wagon gasser lifted the wheels, put them down hard enough to bend the straight axle, up in the air again then kissed the wall. Tri-5 Chevy sedan lost a tailshaft, tore the pinion out of the diff and the casing off the rear of the gearbox. A good reminder that this stuff can go pear-shaped.

With the wagon ignition dramas, work and kids stuff over the last few months I haven't been out to the Creek much. Wasn't paying attention on the first pass, must have been asleep (0.4s reaction time) and left it in Drive. 14 second run. Even Number Two Daughter was giving me side-eye

Second pass was better, red lit (I was awake this time) but not enough stall. Rowed it through the gears. 13.7s. Still way off. Started wondering if the new dizzy and slightly retarded timing had anything to do with it.

Third pass and finally managed to get my head in the game. Hard up against the convertor until it threatened to deep stage, good reaction time and drove it like a PowerGlide (first and second only). Hit valve bounce just before the line and got my foot out of it. Got it down into the 13.3's. Can live with that - best it has ever done was in the 13.2's.

Had been running it low on fuel all day to keep weight down, pushed it a little too far. Ran it dry about 2km from the track on the way home. Quick jerrycan topup (and side-eye from Number 1 Son who was following me) and good to go.

Cheers,
Harv

Dominator 2500. Nice for grocery getting, but about 1700rpm short of where it should be on the strip.

Mebbe it needs this put back on it again
