Re: Clay’s Wedgewood Blue FB Ute

Fuel leak fixed, must have been some grit in the needle and seat I think. Running nice but I'm going to have to adjust the tappities hot bugger it. Just a bit rattly for m liking, though I could be imagining it.Certainly pulls nice.

Thanks for the encouragement, and that 6200 might not be too ambitious after Larry's trundle down for a swim this arvo. Got to 5600 in first and plenty left.

Glen gave the overhead noise the ok, reassuring me its not bad. On the way home wrung it out to 6200 in first, so there.
That's enough of that nonsense as the oil pressure is probably only good for 4000. Had these motors in some shape or form going back to 1978 but never revved one over 4500.

All the time I've had this car, I finally got to the point of putting some rust inhibitor in the cooling system.Ye olde Tectalloy. After I replaced the idiot light sensor.which I managed to swap the 12V tang off of.

Snap, not swap.
Dyno day. Basically just confirmed that it is all pretty spot on. A touch rich at idle and WOT but not really enough to worry about. AFR spot on 12.5 - 13. Base timing left at 6 deg where it is pretty happy, and no pinging up the rev range. Graph tells the story:As Glen commented to me don't know why he doesn't hook the RPM up, but he said it was nudging 5000 at peak power. Tremec calculator says 168kph=4300RPM so I'll go with that.Obligatory rolling road pic.
116 HP equates near enough to 106 kW at the flywheel, which is factory spec for the VK injected 202. Torque curve is almost flat, reflected in how tractable it is, pulling strongly from 1200 RPM.

Re: Clay’s Wedgewood Blue FB Ute
Amazing torque curve Clay if Tractable = torque. It's breathing very well from the looks of that.
I used to run a standard 202 on a dyno to demo to engineering uni students in another life. The torque faded away quickly after about 3800 rpm and after that the power came from increasing revs. ( it was 40 years ago so might be a bit out).
Thanks for posting.

Re: Clay’s Wedgewood Blue FB Ute
Please reset tacho red line to at least 4300rpm. Mebbe slightly more to allow for tyre slippage on the rollers.

Re: Clay’s Wedgewood Blue FB Ute
Pretty cool to know how you are tuning it in the shed is getting the right results.
At least you are not left wondering now

Re: Clay’s Wedgewood Blue FB Ute
Maybe just check the all in timing for future reference mate.. incase you change to a distributor with a different curve

Re: Clay’s Wedgewood Blue FB Ute
Thanks fellas. I got spot on advice from mate Bruiser on the GMH Torana site about the SUs. Brett you echoed my understanding of every torque curve and discussion I’ve had. Glen I thought of doing that. Still got your light. I could use a VK one and set more initial, though it seems pretty happy at idle.
I should say this thing is now completed, but then this arvo, I got Raff to help me get the canopy set up in the shed ready for refurbishing. Stay tuned, LOL.
