Got stuck in and finished of the tunnel, welded underneath and inside, ran out of red oxide
Been looking at the VE rear end, VE use 14mm wheel studs and not threaded the whole length
I have some 16” rims (same as Franks) that I wanted to use, the offset is a little different so got some 5mm wheel spacers, purchased so longer studs and now have to figure out to change them Member of WA FB/EK Car Club

Not a very productive day today, tried to get the hub off of the drivers side to change the studs, apparently the hub is tensioned onto the spline to 180Nm, made a puller but it won’t budge got some CRC into it but might have to use some heat left a fair bit of tension on it to see if it will let go.
Decided to start fitting the panel section that allows room for the independent VE rear end, have to double check to make sure I have enough clearance before welding in fully.

You may have already tried this but on stubborn splines that wont pull off, they may break loose if you give the bolt head on your puller a hit with a copper hammer whilst under tension. If that wont work then yes heating could be called for.

Hey Greg I agree I have used that method many times especially on large diesel lube oil pump drive gears and the like, I did give this one numerous whacks with the BFH think I’m going to have to get the BBFH and yes heat mate.

Hey Blacky I got the air con on early too, it was actually quite ok in the morning but once that cloud came it it was crazy hot.
Got a present when I arrived at work this morning.
Mark Thompson certainly know how to pack his panels Panels look great, I only need the outside half of the underseat panel, plenty of work to come and great that the next week or so is going to be cooler especially for our run next weekend. Was trawling the Yank eBay and found a Lokar 700 R4 shifter new in the box that a guy in Florida had purchased but not used, picked it up for 500 AUD, the guy is sending it to my sister in law who lives in South Carolina so she can send it to me, a bit of mucking around but seeing I'm a cheap skate I wasn't going to pay $2500 AUD for one in AUS and I'm not overly happy with the B&M that I have in Frank so going the Lokar route I know I have to spend some more to get the neutral safety/Back up switch and gear indicator but it will work out somewhat cheaper I think.

Little more research on the VE rear end, apparently it is common that they seize on the splines and the hubs are pressed into the wheel bearings so looks I'm going to have to pull the hubs, may as well replace the wheel bearings while I'm at it

The photo thing goes pear shaped (what is wrong with the shape of a pear???) when you try to attach photos over about 5mb. Maybe that is the issue?

The Lokar shifter arrived from my sister in law in the states yesterday
Couldn’t help myself when I got home and put the shifter mounting plate together to make sure I had all the parts, it is actually very ingenious how they have designed the plate to mount with the only actual bolts being the two at the back where the output extension housing is, the two front mounts on the side of the box they call tension screws where the mount is threaded and the screw goes through and tensions against the box, to protect the casing of the box they provide alloy plugs that the screws tension against.

Hi Neil,
That Lokar Shifter looks the same as I have in My FB Sedan. I got mine from the Armadale Speed Shop, came with all the cables/wiring etc to set it up for 4 speed auto and unable to start in Gear etc. They work quite well and look a treat.
