FB Standard Wagon
Re: FB Standard Wagon
I used nutserts and screws where I could for fuel and brake lines , hardly any more time to install than a self tapper
I started with nothing and still have most of it left.

Re: FB Standard Wagon
Just used factory fixings. Oh yeah and a couple of very discrete cable ties.

Re: FB Standard Wagon
I am wondering because your car is standard apart from the tank you shouldn't need an engineers input.FbSTDwagon wrote: Thu Feb 02, 2023 6:10 am On another note I had my auto electrician point out that the metal tek screws I have fixing all of fuel and brake lines to the chassis with will most likely fail an inspection when it comes registration time.
He said they fail tek screws and prefer self tapping screws with a flat washer under them.
Has anyone experienced this issue with an engineer?
What is the acceptable standard?
Even the tank will probably not bat an eyelid as most inspectors wouldnt have a clue what is what.
Personally, I dont like either tech screws or self tappers for the reason they usually do rattle out but in saying that a bit of loctite will solve the issue.
Get it inspected and see what happens.

So many cars so little time!
Re: FB Standard Wagon
I don't think they will be looking under the car Drew. They will sight the engine number and observe general roadworthiness. Unless there is a noticeable issue such as vibrations, rattles, fluid or exhaust leak, tyres rubbing etc they won't care. You won't be testing brakes or going on the hoist. Unless the engine comes up stolen you are shoe in for what is simply an identity check.

Re: FB Standard Wagon
Called on Drew this morning. The engine sounds super quiet after another rebuild due to sealant splurge from the remote filter installation blocking oil galleries. The wagon is pretty much ready to hit the road for an identity check.
Being the fastidious fella that he is, he is busily ensuring every last mechanical detail is in order, down to windscreen washers. The wagon is looking super clean and ship shape, pretty much just needing door trims and hubcaps to be complete. Yeah, sorry no photos....

I noticed he posted on bookface a couple of days ago regarding the best stuff to clean the upholstery up , its a bit sad that he has abandoned his build thread on here
