Red Rattler Revamp
Re: Red Rattler Revamp
I am with you both about rattle cans, have two cans of red oxide primer that just wont spray, nozzles are blocked or the spout out of the can I've tried swapping nozzles and everything, so then I go and buy another two cans, different brand, the first one works for a little bit and then just sprays clear no colour the second ones goes a little better and get about 3/4 of a can and then it goes shit, good money after bad

Yep, those brackets are not the best, though I ran one for ages on an m20. Usually go on the inner hole for a heavyish pedal. There is a fabricated bracket you can get that uses an EJ HK slave on the outer hole but I think it will foul the subframe leg.

Red Rattler Revamp
Its not the photo , its on the piss but not as badly as it looks in the pic. I have lost the rubber boot off it as well so its just sitting there with a turn or 2 on the mounting bolts as it will need to come off again to fit it once it turns up
Only got a little bit done tonight as we had a committee meeting for the nationals tonight
Mounted and painted the idle air motor
, couple of nutserts in the inner guard and job done
Yep it fits
Bit of paint ready to fit tomorrow night

Progress report -
Fitted the idle air widget
Then bit the bullet and finished the wiring off - I have been putting this off for ages because I hate little wires but it had to be done
Before
After
Now I need to make a kick panel fit in there again and figure out how the parcel shelf is going to work and still have access to relays and computer

Re: Red Rattler Revamp
Only wiring left to do is the speakers, was planning on a pair of 6x9” in the parcel shelf and a pair of 6” in the front , grabbed the template off the speaker box and laid it over the existing holes to see what I am up against- the existing holes are somewhat ordinary
Got some work to do here …… and need to figure out where this is going to live, maybe under the back seat

Re: Red Rattler Revamp
With those speaker holes there's the hard way - re fab the parcel shelf, or the easy way - buy bigger speakers

I feel your pain with the wiring Blacky, when I was doing Franks I had the EK body harness, the engine harness to the computer, the relays and fuses which includes the gearbox/neutral safety switch and the Speed Hut electronic gauges in the end I called in a specialist

half inch MDF parcel shelf problem solved and better sound
that car has far to many wires, one of the reasons i bought another FB/EK was i'm sick to death of electronics though no doubt first week on the road i'll be ready to deal with electronics again rather than driving an old sh!tbox

Re: Red Rattler Revamp
I think the MDF parcel shelf might be the answer Mick
Only got into the shed at around 3 this arvo so a short day , main project was the kick panel conundrum. I had already trimmed the stock one down so started with that and some 9mm MDF , made a piece, made it fit and replaced the push pins with nutserts
Bolted it in and realised that 9mm is not going to work so made another out of 5mm or whatever it is, much easier to form into shape bolted THAT in then used 9mm to box it out

Cut cut file sand make again etc etc etc.
Made the cover so it drops in with a pressed metal retainer on the bottom and a threaded bracket on the top

Red Rattler Revamp
Then painted the inside of it satin black and covered it with leftover boot carpet
Will cover the drivers side tomorrow - and figure out how to fit the parcel shelf around it. Interesting to see how long this lasts once it’s back on the road and it gets wet every time it rains
Last job for the day was make up drain hoses for the aerial cups so the new quarter panel doesn’t rust faster than an EK does
Whoever made these didn’t put a whole lot of thought into them, you would think the drain would be at the bottom of the cup and would point down not out 5/8” drain hoses reduced to 3/8” then teed together and out via a hole in the querter

Re: Red Rattler Revamp
At least your ECU install is above the flood line. The modern Minis have the body control module in that location… sitting on the floor. When the factory sunroof leaks and it gets 10mm of water on the floor, all hell breaks loose in the spitz-and-sparken department. A new body control module (at a cost of a kidney) then needs to be programmed to suit the individual chassis (programming needs a mortgage on the second kidney).Blacky wrote: Sun Jan 14, 2024 2:14 am Interesting to see how long this lasts once it’s back on the road and it gets wet every time it rains.
