Help required:

I am looking to put a fan shroud on my radiator to get a bit more efficiency out of the cooling system. No problems shown up yet but just being a bit pre-emptive. Has anyone got or know of a holden fan shrould that would work on an HR radiator and fan?
I have got a couple of later fibreglass/plastic ones but they are much too big, both in the fan size opening and also the width and height.

Funny you should mention this , we are in the process of making some to fit a stock radiator and grey motor combo at the moment, one of our members is an ex boily and he is going to do the design work , then I am going to have them laser cut and we are going to make 3 of them.

I know that is of absolutely no help to you but its the third time this week the subject has come up .......

Funny, I was only thinking of this process the other day. Back when I was a young Harv, I did Tech Drawing at school. We learnt how to draw the transitions between a round and square object, like a square radiator and a round fan. The transition drawing would then act as a template to let you cut and fold the sheet steel to shape.

Sadly, I can't remember how to do those drawings any more. Think I can still remember how to draw third-angle projection though.

Yeah, centre of fan may be off a bit both side to side , up and down and fore and aft depending on engine placement

I think the plan is -

- cut a circle about 30mm bigger in diameter than the fan and tape it to the front of the blade

- measure to the 4 sides of the radiator to establish centre point

- measure back spacing from back of radiator to centre of fan
- make a CAD template
- transfer CAD design to steel sheet using Totally Extremely Xcellent Transfer Application
- cut out and fettle until it works
- once it fits, take to boilys and get them laser cut.

Mucking about with a Holden Shuttle fan shroud today. Probably should be silver soldering but went gung-ho with the MIG. More to do, but basic shape is there.
Picked up a Toyota W50 five speed. Next job after going through it with new bits.

Gazza - Western Wagon - and I had a play around last week with a shroud, he has ordered one from somewhere online and when it turns up we will keep going with it.

Grey motor is the one that came out of Project 2 and was reconditioned and modded up by Advanced Performance Auto in Sydney. I need to sell it as it will never be going back in. Just taking up space, but it does look nice.

Shroud needs the centre cleaned up and bolt tabs welding on. And of course, seeing if it works!

From what i read the shrouds work really well, it will be interesting to see the result.

Rough job finished. It wil be a nightmare to change the fanbelt. Going to stick 1cm strips of black foam around the edges that butt up around the radiator.

Me too Blacky.
Ute ran at a coolish 70-80 when moving but warmed rapidly to 100 when waiting at roadworks etc. I'm hoping to control that aspect. I had put a electric fan in front of aircon condenser already but havent yet tested its effectiveness.
