They are VE Commodore boot hinges Melly , I have a couple more sets here that I was planning to use on the trailer and the 2 door but I am looking at a different setup now for the 2 door.
I started with nothing and still have most of it left.

Red Rattler Revamp

Post by Blacky »

Got the hinges fitted up and working close enough today - first bit of progress in weeks ….. ImageImagebonnet fits in the hole - sorta - going to have to knock up some shims to space the top radiator support bar away from the guards to open the gaps up a bit , be a terrible shame to scratch it ImageImage

Yeah its been pretty slow going lately, too much other stuff getting in the way, the last 2 weekends have been taken up rescuing a mate from down Collie way with a dead slave cylinder in his Colorado, then removing the gearbox to replace , getting supplied the wrong bits , and finally this weekend getting it back together and driving , and managing a couple of hours yesterday after finishing we got the bonnet hinges sorted
I started with nothing and still have most of it left.

I guess you both did some mods to the bars, and they have shrunk. I’ve never encountered the issue.

Managed to get half a day in on this thing today- after a pub lunch with Western Wagon, his Mrs and another club member and his wife Image
Have a few more sensors to fit to the motor to keep the tuner happy-

First up was an inlet air temperature sensor, has to go in the inlet manifold under the supercharger….

Off with the blower - again - and drilled a pilot hole
Image

Had to drill a 12.5mm hole access was shite , and my angle drill only has a 10mm chuck so had to machine down the drill bit
Image

Drill bit sorted ,, finished the hole and ran a 14x1.5mm tap through it and job done.

Next was the knock sensor, figured this was going to be an easy install - should have known better ImageImage the old coil mount in pad was the chosen area , problem is it’s a 3/8” bolt and the knock sensor has a 5/16” hole in it .
I thought about drilling it out but without knowing what is inside it I figured it would end badly- so seeing I had the covers off the lathe I grabbed a 3/8” bolt and got to it
Started by cutting the head off , put 2 nuts on the thread and machined the shank down to 5/16” OD

Then hunted around the shed for the 5/16” UNC die because the bloody thing wasn’t where it should be Image
Gave up and grabbed the 5/16” UNF die and ran it down the bolt - while I was doing that I looked over on the bench I was working on and there was the 5/16” UNC die under a bit of crap on the bench …..
Image

Test fitted it and the 3/8” end was a bit long so took a couple of threads off it - finished product

Image

And installed -
