Clay’s Wedgewood Blue FB Ute
Re: Clay’s Wedgewood Blue FB Ute
Clay,
(Warning. This post may cause revulsion.)
Rather than going to all the trouble of pulling the camshaft out . . . couldn't you weld an old pushrod to the lifter body and extract the lifter with the pushrod? Desperate times, desperate measures . . .
Or a slightly more civilized approach: remove the interior circlip and extract the plunger from the lifter body. Then you might be able to get a lifter removal tool to grip inside the lifter body.

Re: Clay’s Wedgewood Blue FB Ute
I’ve got the circlip, pushrod seat and inner piston out Rob. Only bit left is the outer shell. I thought about welding, and slide hammer, but worried about damaging the lifter bore if the lifter is actually out of shape at the base. So cam can come out.

Lifter damaged and can' t pull out through its bore, then your camshaft lobe is probably damaged as well.
New cam and lifters !!!!

So many cars so little time!
Re: Clay’s Wedgewood Blue FB Ute
Looks that way Greg. We’ll see. If so I will look for something with peak torque around 2700rpm or less, which is what it is pulling at 100kmh.

Re: Clay’s Wedgewood Blue FB Ute
Be aware that you can’t get the oil pump out with the engine in the car Clay., you can get it out far enough to get the cam out but be super careful with the gasket or you will have to pull the motor.. also the timing cover/ sump is a real bitch to do in the car.. along with trying to get your dud lifter out without dropping it in the sump it may be easier to pull the motor

Re: Clay’s Wedgewood Blue FB Ute
The rocker arm had eventually jumped off the pushrod, causing exhaust to vent out the rear carb, which sounded raucous to say the least. Subsequently discovered the filter had blown off!

Re: Clay’s Wedgewood Blue FB Ute
All but the back lifter came out easily. I developed a special tool to give the offender a good hook.
Got bottom of lifter 50% up the bore. Very stiff to rotate. So pushed it back down a bit, and will see if I can do the cam in car.

Try getting the oil pump oil
Pump out mate … unless you motor is 10 mm further the the passenger side you have to cut out some frame

Re: Clay’s Wedgewood Blue FB Ute
To get the lifter out I put a 3/8 nut in the lifter and the put the cirlip back in and use a bit of threaded rod down through the pushrod hole and pull it out from the top… plan b Was going to be a broomstick wish a rare earth magnet on the end after the cam is out

Re: Clay’s Wedgewood Blue FB Ute
Just some surplus bits Scott. I’m sticking with the current setup. Fingers crossed cam is ok. If not I’ll get one custom ground to suit the gearing, by one of Gledge’s contacts.
