R-1850-2 is a 600cfm 4-barrel... that's a lot of carb for a red motor, more suited to a high-zoot V8.
Had hoped it was the elusive 390 Holley, which it better suited (much smaller venturis).

ooohhh... thanks Harv the fella i got it off told me it was a 450- I didnt even check. May be a bit over the top eh?? It does, however, appear you are a much better welder than I am- and your advice on stud removal is duly noted
Thanks Rob, I am having trouble getting the #2 and #3 front studs/ dowels out (dunno the difference between the 2?). they are course thread into the head and fine for the nut but the mid-section isn't threaded so I cant run nuts all the way down

And you are correct the balancer hasnt been knocked home as i will be stripping the motor down again before run time so dummying it all up just to see if Ive got all the bits and it all fits in the hole. As you can see by the pic this is the solution ive come up- but I am missing 2 of the square washers and the aft one has to be a bolt as I've run out of other hardware...
