Bag of shit performance continued on the morning of the cruise down from Nuri to Birdwood Mill on Saturday of the nats. Then ran like a dream back to Nuri and since. I even filled up with 91 and running sweet.

For peace of mind I checked that it is getting 12V at the coil. No resistor wire. Vacuum tube to Venturi passes the suck test as does the dissy vacuum advance mechanism. Mechanical advance also gets a tick.

Haven’t changed the needle and seat valves but I probably will soon.

Was running bad when I filled it, and then continued after for 50km then came good. Go figure.

My local club rego day is this Sunday. I've been apathetic about a few details since getting the engine swap and modifications approved. So I had a chat with Laurie Wickes, one of our inspectors, who pointed out that I should have attended at Service (sic) SA to get the details updated on their records.

Managed to find my paperwork and trundled down in the ute, in case they wanted to view the mod sticker. The nice young lady said my piece of paper wasn't the right one and was also months out of date, and I needed a white form from the inspector. I was very apologetic and smiley while she referred to her boss and then discovered that the form in question had already been uploaded by the nice inspector. Th boss deigned to overlook my tardiness and for the small fee of sixtysomething dollars the ute was pronounced now thoroughly legal and compliant. Yippee-kai-aye. I thought it already was but now it is. Ain't life grand?

Spoke to Roger Hancock during the week and he says he will finish my column off next. Elle and I are bringing the ute on the SA club Stansbury Cruise in five weeks so I dare say the rattley crash box will get us there and back. Just need to try and sort the tuning heebeejeebys.

It’s not slowing me Greg, just exercising restraint on gear changes and takeoffs. Enjoy my chats with Roger too. He has a broad range of early Holden knowledge.

Noticed the Crupis use the 3speed all synchro on column in their Holden V8 cars, albeit with modified HT WB shifters and collapsible columns.

Finally pulled the top of the carbs installed new needless and seats and checked float levels. Both good at 5/8". Inspected power valves. They aren't bleeding at light throttle and look good. Opened throttles up for 20 seconds and all looking nice. Image
Drove 70km suburb and highway, running great. Pulls up hill in top from 15mph. ImageImage

Spoke to him twice since. Still no invoice. The column is done but selector rods to be made.

Averaged 26mpg 11 litres per 100 km on full tank of 91. Very slight ping very occasionally. Thought the tank was empty but only took 37 litres. There was another 50km in it.

Drying out after a wet weekend run. Stubby of best extra stout came adrift and let off some fizz this morning dropping Raff off to the camp bus. Good excuse to wash out the under floor.Image
Slight dampness in the front also, no doubt been accumulating over the last few wet drives.Image
I will clean and paint with metalfix after gearbox install.

After the wash I took her own the road to dry things out. Stunning day today here for the time of year.Image
There had been a slight splutter at estimated 4000rpm but seems to have cleared after a de-coke. Took her out to GPS 118kmh in second for a calculated 5000rpm. Smooth as silk. Just wanted to keep going, but no. With the tall diff and big tyres the car is a bit of a slug in top, but it's a bit of a weapon in second. I think I may look for a slightly shorter centre for the bw78 in a LSD.
